Scott McCoy was appointed to the Utah senate earlier this week, making him the first openly gay state senator. And not even a fucking week in, the attack dogs are trying to
get him out of office for being...out in office.
They are saying that he did not move to Utah 3 years before Paula Julander (the senator he replaced) last filed for office (March 2002). He moved to Utah 3 months before that date. The Democrats are saying that's bullshit. To their credit, the UT Senate Republicans are saying they will not move to replace McCoy. We'll see if that lasts.
Oh, and conveniently enough, it looks like the person who filed this complaint also worked to ban gay benefits in Utah w/last year's constitutional amendment. And the only senators who seem to be interested in unseating him are those who have already attacked him for having a "gay agenda".
The hate just never stops. Does this mean McCoy cannot run for the seat in 2006? Or can he still run? This is a win-win for the GOP. Either he doesn't run again and they get a "Sodomite" out of office, or he runs again and his opponent tears him apart over the issue.
