Some of you might think I am beating a dead horse here; but I can't help it! This fight is mine to lose! The wingers have nothing to lose if Pennsylvania decides to either add or not add the proposed "Marriage Protection Amendment" to the Constitution of Pennsylvania.
Not so for me and my partner of 14 years! We have much to lose if this state adds this measure to a ballot. Our only hope is to appeal to our elected officials not to advance the measure beyond tomorrow.
And that is where all of you come in.
We need to present one unified voice as Pennsylvania citizens that states clearly and loudly that we do not support the idea of adding any type of discriminatory language to our state Constitution. We need to put the pressure on the members of the legislature that any vote affirming this measure will cost them a vote in November!
The PA House & Senate members are particularly vulnerable right now, and they know it! The pay raise scandal in PA has caused our representatives to be very sensitive to issues that may either help or hinder their reelection chances.
As this is a barely blue state, and our House and Senate are GOP controlled, it comes as no surprise that the frightened and cowardly members are willing to use the gays as a wedge to try to distract the voters from the dark-of-night raise they gave themselves. More over, this stinks to high heaven of a sideways wedge to support Santorum!
Don't let them get away with it! If they hear from all of us today & tomorrow, by way of phone, letters, and email...They just might reconsider this dangerous piece of legislation. But this will only happen with vigilant support from the masses. This is a grassroots effort, and yawl are the grass!
Notice this has gotten virtually no press from the MSM. That is because the fringe religious-wrong group that is pressing the issue is small and powerless until this is on the books. They know that they major metropolitan regions of the state will not support their efforts to discriminate against other citizens of PA. So they have kept this quiet. Likewise, the members in the PA Legislature have kept this quiet until such time as it passes. Then they will claim a victory for sure.
Well, let's foil that plan before it unfolds!
So on this critical day, I ask you all to once again put a pen to paper for my relationship. Put your thoughts on paper for your own relationships. Put your beliefs in the American system of rights and freedoms down and share them in a pointed and logical manner with your PA representatives. Share them with your local papers. Share them will national news outlets.
It is time for us to take control of this debate!
