UPDATED! Is Bush's "bird" a rolled-up piece of paper?

Did Bush give the finger once again -- this time, as President?

It seems...well........yes...and...no...

I decided to enlarge his hand in 3 different frames.  As can be seen in frames 1 and 3, it is clearly not his thumb that he is gesturing with.  It is too long to be a thumb -- it is a finger.  You can also see the thumb retracted in frame 2.

The question is:  which finger is it?

Frames 1 & 2 seem to suggest that it is his index finger.  However, frame 3 is ambiguous.

Now, the question is:  why would he raise his arm to point at the ceiling?

Take a look at these frames (NO sharpening filter was applied and the frames are in sequential order):



Notice that in all 3 frames, there appears to be a color difference with the "alleged" finger. Could it be a rolled up piece of paper, or a pen -- as seesdifferent suggested below?
