Howard Dean visited San Francisco last night to announce his plans for a new grassroots organization, to be called Democracy for America. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, more than 700 people were in attendance. I was there, and though I can't confirm the number, it was clearly several hundred people, with a SRO crowd spilling into adjacent meeting rooms at the Sheraton Palace Hotel. The energy and excitement was tremendous, and a real testament to how Governor Dean has been able to inspire his supporters. I sincerely doubt that John Edwards or John Kerry (had he dropped out) could draw a crowd like that a month after dropping out.
