This is the first report I have seen actually showing the injured and their struggle to regain their lives. The American people need to see this. They need to see what this does to people and the truth about the reasons for why these men are missing a leg.
The injured soldiers are incredibly positive folks and they are inspiring. They seemed to be optimistic about the reasons to go to war. They need to feel like it was worth it. That was actually the saddest part of the story. Listening to them say they think it was worth it, because Saddam was gone, made sense, but that is what the country is being sold now. Ooops, we screwed up, but at least Saddam is gone.
I can't even imagine trying to face my life as an amptuee and even consider the idea that lies were told to put me in a place to lose my leg. It's too devastating.
The difference between George Bush and John Kerry is that Kerry understands what war does to the real people that actually have to fight it. It is an excellent contrast. "I won't send our soldiers into war for a lie, because I know how horrible the impact can be."
We have to tie the story of not fighting terrorism with the waste of resources in Iraq and then make the impact more severe, because American lives were lost and other lives were dramatically degraded.
All the pieces are coming together in the picture and we just need to paint the picture.
