Washington Post Executive Editor Leonard Downie met with hundreds of Post staffers yesterday to outline the paper's new plan to combat declining readership. Besides the cementing of white males in leadership positions, there will be a concerted effort to "dumb down" the paper as referenced by the quote from Downie:
In an effort to win new readers, Downie said Post reporters will be required to write shorter stories. The paper's design and copy editors will be given more authority to make room for more photographs and graphics.

Also from Phillip Bennett, the newly appointed managing editor:
"Newspapers should be fun and it should be fun to work at one," Bennett said.
This new attitude by the paper has encouraged me to forward them my own ideas for appealing to today's busy populace. First, the name change to the Washington Post-It.
Sunday's edition may require the larger, 5" x 5" Post it, but most daily news could probably fit on the standard 3" x 3" if the font were small enough.
Here's my suggestion for today's edition of the new "fun" Washington Post-It:
Powell makes shit up to pave the way for war with Iran.
Delay's friends change the laws to prevent him from going to jail.
The Scott Peterson thing, still not over.
Your overseas vacation dollar becoming worthless
Any of the drugs you are taking could kill you, government can't help
Congress announces new economic plan, "Contract for the Rape of America." Democrats insist they use a condom.
... and here's one that could become a permanent headline, just change the number every day..
