Lieberman is saying that "Yesterday less than 15 percent of the registered voters in Connecticut voted." There were enthusiastic reports in the dailyKoskeller last night that turnout would be an unprecedented 50%, with putschists magnifying the result into countrywide significance, announcing: "The national revolution has broken out... a new government will be formed at once!" A machine gun was set up at the exit, with the threat that any Democrat refusing to rally behind Lamont would meet a like fate.
According to Connecticut voter registration stats there are something like 2,086,000 registered voters in Connecticut. Total vote in the Lamont/Lieberman race was about 283,000. Not sure how many Republicans turned out, but it seems that the overall turnout figure is probably closer to Lieberman's estimate.
The fact that von Lieberman is holding onto his senate campaign, which might seem to retain pretty good chances, adds up to a morning-after hangover. By midmorning, the realization hit that the putsch was going nowhere and the blogshirts were desperate. They didn't know what to do and were about to give up. At this moment, they cried out "Wir marschieren!" (We will march!) they marched out with no plan of where to go.
