Once more, the Democrats appear utterly unable to capitalize on the incompetence and malfeasance of the Bush administration. The Democrat's performance in the political front is very reminiscent of FEMA's last week: uncoordinated, clueless, feeble, and ultimately tragic.
The problem is that the Democrats need a top advisor for strategy and tactics in the court of public opinion. In other words, they need a worthy counterpart to Karl Rove.
The Democrats have so demonized Karl Rove that they have become utterly incapable to recognize the guy's talent. Rove has made a career for himself as a miracle worker, the kind of guy that can rescue an otherwise hopeless political situation. (He's about to do it again; just watch; TV cameramen will be shooting through the streets of an "unflooded" New Orleans before the 1-month anniversary of the Katrina disaster.) It is therefore not surprising that his clientele consists mostly of incompetents and crooks, but one doesn't get to such a position
just by lying and slandering; one also needs intelligence, creativity, and knowledge.
Rove is no different from the brilliant lawyer whose clients are very wealthy criminals, the kind of lawyer that lets his/her clients get away with murder, sometimes literally. Such lawyers are almost always unethical, if nothing else because they are willing to uphold the innocence of those whom they know to be guilty. And usually that's not the only ethical corner they're willing to cut. But they are also very smart and very skilled in ways that go far beyond their lack of ethics. The same is with Rove. He is a liar and a cheat, but he is also an excellent strategist and tactician.
But Rove's biggest asset at the moment is that he is operating unopposed, since he has no counterpart on the Democrats' side. Many seem horrified by the prospect of a counterpart to Rove on the Democrats' side, but they are just like the person who refuses the services of a lawyer on the grounds that the opposite side's lawyer is a crook. Predictably, such a person would get taken to the cleaners, and this is what's been happening to the Democrats for years now.
To dismiss Rove's success as solely the result of unethical tactics is an unwitting admission of profound cluelessness, and tantamount to declaring defeat.
And along the same lines, please stop blaming the mainstream media! This is facile and wimpy and childish. Imagine a military commander complaining about having to fight uphill, or having to fight a better equipped enemy, or having to fight in unknown territory. The MSM is part of territory, and the Democrats have to JUST DEAL WITH IT AND QUIT WHINING! The Republicans face their own seemingly unsurmountable obstacles, like an imbecile as their figurehead and a record filled with failure, corruption, and crimes, and they are dealing with these obstacles quite well.
