I am a Clark supporter and have touted the General in a number of threads here over the last few days. I think he's not only a very strong candidate but has the potential to be a great president--and the perfect leader for the liberals and moderates in the truly important battle for our nation's future and soul against the theocrats, oligarchs and flat-earthers who back the DeLay/Cheney/Robertson/Norquist axis of reaction.
The only concern I have about Clark is that he is bound by the spending limits. It looks like the primary campaign is going to go another six weeks at least, and while he's obviously a good fundraiser it does appear he'll be left with the proverbial bupkes to start hitting back against Chimp-in-Chief if/when he does lock up the nomination. This really does worry me--I don't doubt that there are millions of Democrats like me eager to support the nominee, but the matching funds preclude this and render us vulnerable to Rovian sliming until the Dem convention.
But I'm wondering--is there any other funding mechnism or outside group option that essentially can "spend for" the Clark campaign (or Edwards) while it's out of money? The DNC, 527s, other grass-roots/web roots... any information about how strategists in the campaign or the party are planning to deal with this problem would be appreciated.
