A few minutes ago I called 1-888-501-7673 to chip in $10 toward 3 roses for the
Barbara Boxer Rose Campaign . The first time I called it was busy but the second time I got through and pledged $10.
Now, this ins't just a repetitive diary highlighting the fact that tonight is the last chance to participate in this. It is highlighting what I see as a problem with DKos and wanting to discuss what can be done about it.
The Barbara Boxer Rose campaign has apparently been posted about on DKos sporadically for the past two weeks, but it is the first time I have come across it and it was only because I was reading some of the comments on the Dean/DNC/ActBlue fundraising thread that I even got wind of it.
I am not a prolific poster or diarist on DKos. But I am a frequent lurker. I read all of the front page articles and the vast majority of the Recommendeds (unless I happen to be away from the computer for a few days and miss them). In addition, during the week I frequently read diaries that at least have interesting titles or that have high levels of comments.
So am I the only one oblivious to this campaign around here? What other important news/activities am I and others missing? What can be or should be done about it?
Obviously time is a limited quantity. I'm not sure it would be possible to read everything on DKos even if one wanted to. I have long since given up on reading open threads and usually don't have time to read comment lists when they get into the hundreds of comments. I might skim them occasionally, but there is just too much. Is there some way to put together a team that will systematically comb the blog for a highlight reel?
Also, I think something should be done about titling of diaries. On the FAQ page where it describes Diary Guidelines, it says about Titles: "One would hope that this is fairly self-explanitory - this is where your title goes ;o)" And yet some how it isn't so self-explanitory. I've seen plenty of times where titles were incredibly vague to the point where I don't bother to look at the diary. I have also seen times (and once been guilty of it) where people intentionally or not had incredibly misleading titles. So some guidelines on effective titling would be helpful.
