This is just a guess. With the situation in Haiti deteriorating I wonder wether the administration considers an intervention on the island in case the situation gets worse.
Currently, violence is spreading and President Aristide is effectively losing control. Aristide is the elected leader of his country. Nevertheless he turned our to be corrupt and the poverty in Haiti has increased dramatically under his presidency. He has been ousted before, but was forced back in office by the threat of immediate military intervention by President Clinton. I think, Jimmy Carter was involved, too.
With the situation in Iraq messing up the polls, a little backyard war might help. O.k., this sounds cynical, but one has to discuss what kind of response to the humanitarian crisis the U.S. should give. From my point of view, strong measures to prevent a civil war are necessary. This might include the use of force. At least, Democrats should prepare for the issue.
