I started out trying to think of a way to convince Republicans not to vote for Bush, and ended up with what I've dubbed
The Republican Test. Three, yes-no questions that determine whether you should trend republican or democrat. My rationale follows...
- Do you believe in the Golden Rule? i.e Do unto others as you would have done unto you.
- Do you believe friends improve your life?
- Do you believe being an American is a privilage or a right?

No to all of the above you are a
Republican
If you answered Yes to all of the above you are a Democrat
- Do unto others as you would have done unto you. This should be simple. If you're racist, sexist, anti-gayist... you're wrong. All people should be treated equal, period. Social programs help those who can't help themselves. (Personally I support social programs because I believe they prevent crime, and I don't like crime, nor do I want to become a victim of it.) But under the Golden Rule you should help those that can't help themselves...wouldn't you want the help if you needed it?
- Friends are good. Of course friends improve your life. And if you consider America the strong united nation that we could and should be in the context of the world community we should desire and strive to create friends and allies. As opposed to this lone ranger unilateral thing we have going for us.
- Taxes pay for the Privilage Being an American is of course an actual right, but I believe it is above and beyond that. I believe it is a privilage. We pay for that privilage in taxes, plain and simple. Now when you consider the fact that the wealthy are able to take better advantage of the benefits of the privilage that is being an American, it makes sense that they should have to pay more for that privilage.
Now we all know how much Republicans like Bush hate trick questions (like how many troops do you forsee in Iraq this time next year...)but I think that these are simple ways of showing these poor people the error of thier ways.
