The following words seem odd, as though written in the Onion: One of the most widely known emissaries of the Democratic party appeared on Meet the Press yesterday and smashed a raw egg on his face, causing the host to duck and run for cover, in order to avoid flying chicken placenta.
But they didn't come from the Onion. They came from the world of cold, hard fact.
(See here.)
I didn't see it, but the still from the show will forever haunt me. Two thoughts below.
First, Carville is -- like it or not -- closely associated with the Democratic party. That which humiliates him humiliates us. And a shot of Carville doing his thing made it onto Drudge. 'Nuf said.
Second, the egg incident makes the election seem like a joke or a game. It's like a baseball player who promises to shave his head if a game is lost; or a mayor who promises to send a box of local goodies to another city that wins a competition; or a fraternity pledge who has to wear a sundress to class for a day. Carville trivialized a tragic, disturbing event in American history for his own self-aggrandizement. It was distasteful and damaging to the party.
