Religious Right Watch (
http://www.religiousrightwatch.com) has a slightly different take on the whole supposedly third-rail issue of Roberts' Roman Catholicism. One I hope the likes of Sen. Schumer and Biden at least think about. Joseph Ratzinger as a cardinal in 2004--before he became Pope Benedict XVI--publicly supported withholding communion (that is
excommunication technically) from the likes of officials like John Kerry if the official voted to uphold any kind of legalized abortion.
In other words, Ratzinger dismisses the notion of voting your conscience. It's his way--the Church's way--or the highway (or, more exactly, the road to hell).
So, how can Roberts POSSIBLY vote in favor of upholding ANY form of abortion w/o jeopardizing his soul?
This is a question I think, in some form, he should be asked, even at the risk of Rove, FOX, et al painting all Dems as "anti-Catholic," which is bunk anyway. (Name one Catholic Republican Presidential candidate. Dems have at least two: Al Smith (the FIRST Roman Catholic candidate!) and JFK.
