Isn't it time for some common sense, cause and effect legislation in our nation?
What would our politicians say if someone submitted a plan that would dramatically conserve oil, keep America the leader in new innovations and technologies, create a huge increase small business ventures, create new prosperity for our rural communities, decrease medical costs for uninsured patients and create equality in the American business environment?
All across America, people in rural communities are commuting long distances to go to work, to shop and take care of all manners of business. This practice of course is a large contributor to America's consumption of twenty five percent of the world's oil production. So if suddenly, small business growth were to dramatically increase in these rural areas, this nation would dramatically conserve oil and in turn, reduce harmful fuel emissions into our environment. What politician would be against this?
What if we could increase the number of Americans inventing new products and technologies and keep our nation the leader in science and industry? What politician would oppose this?
What if an unprecedented motivation for Americans to open new businesses and grow existing ones was introduced into our society? What politician would oppose this?
What if a plan were introduced that would revitalize our small towns and rural communities with local shopping, manufacturing and all manner of new business growth? What politician would oppose this?
What if we could dramatically reduce the cost of medical care for uninsured patients in our nation? What politician would oppose this?
All these things would be nice if they were only realistically achievable goals. Well, they are quite realistic and achievable with little effort.
Unfairness and discrimination exist in many forms in our society. Some forms of discrimination are more noticeable than others. One of the less noticeable forms is Price Discrimination. This is the practice of selling your product to one business, person or organization for less than you do another. This is usually in the form of a Discount for Volume or a Contractual Discount. These are reduced prices for larger volume companies, or in the medical profession contractual discounts for insured patients and their insurance providers. Another form is Customer Discrimination. Companies today are allowed to choose their customers and completely deny smaller companies access to their product.
This all seems quite fair for the insurance companies and large manufacturers and retailers of our nation because it keeps the competition at bay. They don't have to worry about a small company with new innovative ideas stepping in and competing in their market. In the manufacturing and retail industry, this creates a consolidation and monopolization of business into larger communities and rural communities and small businesses are unable to compete.
This economic philosophy is often justified by some because the larger industry is able to sell their product or service at a lower price. Of course this is true because they are buying their raw materials for manufacturing or products for retail at reduced prices.
What this has done to the medical field is simply unethical. Uninsured patients are being charged as much as eight times more for medical treatment and procedures than insured patients. This is due to contractual discounts with insurance providers. One example of this situation is an MRI that costs $2500.00. When an insured patient receives the bill for this procedure, usually they will have to pay about $150.00 of this total bill. The insurance company is charged also $150.00. The contractual discount for the insurance company is $2200.00. If the patient is uninsured, he/she is charged the full $2500.00 due to their inability to negotiate a contract as an individual. This is both discriminatory and unethical.
If our politicians would take a serious look at this situation and act upon it with a Fair Business Act which would outlaw Price Discrimination, Discounts for Volume, Contractual Discounts and Customer Discrimination many of the problems and issues that face our nation today would resolve themselves and have a positive effect on the business and job environment of our nation.
This Fair Business Act should make it illegal for a company, foreign or domestic to sell its product to another company for a cheaper price. This will cause companies to compete with overall pricing targeted at all its potential buyers allowing smaller communities to thrive, reduce fuel consumption and emissions, and allow all Americans access to fairly priced medical care. It is also a most simple, conservative, liberal and fair policy.
What politician who says they support small business and affordable healthcare would oppose this?
What politician who says they oppose discrimination would oppose this?
What politician who says support fuel conservation would oppose this?
What politician who says they support lower fuel emissions would oppose this?
And last but not least, what politician who supports reducing our dependency on foreign oil would oppose this?
Isn't it time we started looking at simple "cause and effect" policies that logically solve our nations problems?
