There aren't many around these parts that are fans of "Joementum," myself included.
But, finally, this time the people of Connecticut face a choice in the re-election bid of Joe Lieberman.
The Senate is close now, but a challenging one to take back. If my numbers are correct, we're currently down 44+1 to 55 in the Senate, so we need a gain of around 7 or so, not counting DINOs, to gain a thin majority there. It's a tough goal, let's be honest.
But my biggest fear is that we actually do gain the seats we need and end up sitting pretty at maybe 51-49, only to have Lieberman switch parties
after the election.
That's why taking Lieberman out now in the primary is so important. The odds are stacked against Ned Lamont.
But there's one way Ned can even the odds in the primary: He might try insisting Joe take the pledge.
The pledge is:
If re-elected as their Senator, I pledge to the people of Connecticut that I will remain a proud Democrat and will not switch parties.
This has real world implications. If he does switch after election, he's not only betraying his constituents again, but he could throw our committee chairs away and leave us a minority party again. If it's a close vote, he'd leave Cheney with a swing vote or whoever they appoint to replace him. We can't let that happen.
Take the pledge, Joe. Are you a Democrat, or aren't you?
