Unembedded is a stunning book of photographs from four photojournalists roaming Iraq without U.S. military escorts. Over the next week I'll be featuring photos from the book.

BAGHDAD, SEPTEMBER 5, 2004
University students gather at a restaurant popular among young, middle-class Baghdadis. Women are far less active and spend more time at home than they did before the war due to the deteriorated security situation in Baghdad. Kidnapping for ransom has been common since the invasion.
