I know there's a lot going on: filibuster, social security, Iraq, etc. However, thats' still no excuse why NOTHING has been written here regarding Bob Hunter's passing.
For those that don't know, Bob Hunter helped found Greenpeace. With nuclear proliferation such a hot topic now because of the conference, it's impportant to note that Hunter started his Greenpeace movement protesting nuclear weapons testing.
Yet, despite Hunter's legacy and his contribution to helping CREATE the environmental movement that wrote laws like NEPA, the Clean Air Act, etc. there is NOTHING from Kos, Armando, or ANYONE about Mr. Hunter's recent passing or his legacy.
Why?
I understand that the UK elections have signifigance. I know we're engaged in a bitter, costly fight here at home (tax cuts, SS, budget, etc.) and in Iraq and Afghanistan. But it seems the Kossack community does not care that one of the founders of the environemntal movement is gone.
Nothing about his life.
Nothing about his legacy.
Nothing about what he meant to liberalism and environmentalism.
Now, maybe my ability to search for diary entries sucks, or maybe I've missed something (and if I have I apologize). But heck, with the ANWR issue and the nuke stories, you'd think SOMEBODY would post about Hunter and his efforts. But no, nothing. I'm not writing this to blast DKos or anyone else. I just remember a few weeks ago a poster lashing out at Kossacks for not recognizing the passing of Marla Ruzicka, who was killed in a car bomb in Iraq.
I just think that, too often, we get caught up in the here and now and forget who got us here. Hunter is one of those people. I did not agree with all of his tactics, and I'm not an avid supporter of Greenpeace, but Hunter and the organization he founded made a difference for our country and for the world, and it's sad that NO ONE here is acknowledging that.
