I know a lot of people are tired of the Swift Boat Vets thing, but I think this is actually a great opportunity for Kerry. Not only has his campaign started to use it to expose the dirty tricks of BushCo. and leverage McCain against Bush, but Kerry has a great opportunity to turn it around on Bush.
Here is what he needs to say:
"I have released all of my military records which prove that this group is lying about me. I call on President Bush to do the same thing so he can quiet his critics who say he went AWOL from the National Guard and we can get to talking about the issues." That would promote the AWOL claim while actually appearing to be on Bush's side! When Bush can't prove he didn't go AWOL, Kerry can hit it again. "I renew my call to President Bush to release the remainder of his National Guard records so we can put to rest the AWOL charge and talk about the issues." And again.
Think of the possibilities for this strategy: someone can bring up Bush's DUI arrest and Kerry can do the same thing. Then the Bush insider trading claim, then Halliburton doing business with banned nations under Cheney, and on and on...
Of course, the beauty is that BushCo. wouldn't be able to refute any of the charges, so Kerry could keep hammering them while appearing to be on Bush's side. "President Bush should put to rest these claims once and for all so that we can get down to talking about the issues."
