Yesterday I posted
this request asking people to donate money to
buy some armor for my friend's sister Amanda
The response has been nothing less than incredible. In the last 24 hours, friends and anonymous angels have raised $1191 of the $1740 we need to purchase Amanda the best armor we could find.
My friend wanted me to pass a long a letter to the Kossacks and LiveJournalers who donated; you can read it below the cut. For my part, I was totally floored by this outpouring of generosity from friends and random LiveJournalers and Kossacks. We've made it two-thirds of the way in just one day; but we still have $550 to go. Read on!
So without further ado, my pal Sarah:
Over the past 24 hours the response I have had has been nothing short of a miracle, as far as I am concerned. Thanks to generous donations, and much of them from complete strangers, we have already raised 1,191 US Dollars to help my little sister. I spoke with her yesterday and she seemed so excited. Amanda feels unprepared and she certainly does not think the flack jacket they issue for armor is going to help her any. She would be right; a flack jacket will not protect her from an insurgent with an AK 47.
The words thank you seem so inadequate to express what I feel. You all have restored my faith in the goodness of mankind. You all have made me feel a little safer about sending my sister into the hell that is war. Amanda appreciates and was completely shocked by the outpouring of kindness we have received. This is not a popular war and that is always hard on the soldier. Thank you for showing me that there are people in this world who know how to separate the war from the soldier. Thank you for helping one little girl to be as protected as she could be. And finally, thank you for helping to ease the mind of a very worried big sister.
Brightest Blessings,
Sarah L. Mason
Please, if you can help us make this happen, then help us! Show Tom DeLay just which side we're on! And thanks!
