I've gotta help my mother-in-law with her absentee ballot today, and I've gotten hardly any of the union and other flyers that usually provide some guidance.
I hate to bail out Ahhhnold, but it looks to be a major train wreck if 57 and 58 don't pass. And, bluntly, my wife is a community-college instructor, which means that if there's a train wreck we're in one of the front-end cars.
A quick summary of the four propositions on the state ballot:
- - School buildings bond. My reflex is "Yes," but is this really just expensive pork for building contractors?
- - Reduce budget-passing requirement from 2/3 to 55 percent. This is my only sure-fire "Yes" - eliminate GOP stranglehold on the budget.
Props 57 and 58 are the Ahhhnold initiatives (both have to pass for either to take effect). These are the ones I'm really struggling with.
- - Whalloping huge bailout bond.
- - Balanced-budget requirement (but GOPers seem to think it's pretty toothless, on the whole a good sign).
Soooo ... what are people's takes and arguments on these ballot measures?
