The pro-Kerry blog, Upper Left, has a nice
reflection on Lieberman getting out of the race. Lord knows Joe was bashed enough around here, so I think it's worth pondering a bit to remind ourselves that what we have in common blows away what separates us:
..."But while Joe Lieberman isn't someone I ever considered supporting for the Presidency, he ran honorably, and took a lot more heat for being 'Republican-lite' than he deserved. I'm glad he's out, because it helps to clarify the field, and because he didn't deserve the kind of humiliation that a pushing on would have brought him.
Next time you feel like slamming Joe Lieberman, think about this:
- Planned Parenthood 100 percent
- National Abortion Reproductive Rights Action League 100 percent
- -2002 National Association for the Advancement of Colored People 94 percent
- -2002 Leadership Conference on Civil Rights 100 percent
- -2002 Human Rights Campaign 100 percent
- National Education Association 100 percent
- -2002 League of Conservation Voters 88 percent
- AFL-CIO 92 percent
- U.S. Public Interest Research Group 81 percent
- Americans for Democratic Action 85
- According to the National Journal - Composite Liberal Score's calculations, in 2002, Senator Lieberman voted more liberal on economic, defense and foreign policy issues than 78 percent of the Senators.
Joe's one of ours. And I, for one, salute both his effort and his wise decision to end it."
