I posted a diary entry earlier in which I tried to make the case for Kerry, as a Dean supporter.
Well, there's one thing I need to take back. I really don't think he can justify condoning the constitutional ammendment banning gay marriage, even if the argument is that it's better in the long run if we win this election. I can accept not supporting gay marriage for that purpose, but this idea of an ammendment is truly a desecration of our constitution and a slap in the face of millions of undeserving Americans. You don't play politics with the most sacred document of our land, and enshrine bigotry as well as 2nd-class status to a group of Americans who have enough of that already, when you can reframe the issue much more effectively.
I propose: "look, I'm not a fan of gay marriage, but I will not allow the Republicans to trumpet a constitutional ammendment that denies - not gay marriage - but the right of all Americans to have the issues of jobs, healthcare, education, and national security policy as the central focus of this campaign season."
