I am giving this out once, to be fair.
So, George, Ralph, and Roy, listen up.
If you get on the ballot in NY, you know where to go to get support against Kerry, right?
No, you don't.
If you answered "Places that went for Dean and Kucinich" you would be wrong.
Most of those voters told exit pollers that they were "satisfied" with Kerry, but preferred someone else.
So, I have two scenarios for your campaigning wisdom.
A) Kerry doesn't pick Edwards. Up to half of Edwards voters aren't satisfied with Kerry as the nominee. You have to sell your pitch to young white men 18-29 who make 75-100,000 dollars a year. But not just any guys. Guys who never went to college. That's right. Edwards did best among young white guys who make 75,000-100,000 but only graduated high school. They're doing better than just three years ago, by the way. They aren't LGBT, so Roy and George have nothing to worry about. They aren't registered Democrats, although they might be Third Party. They are somewhat conservative, so Ralph, start talking up more of your social agenda. Oh, and they are Protestants. And they are Protectionists. So junk the Free Trade schtick.
And they want a positive message, so no attacks on the other candidates. They mainly live in the Upstate region, so don't even go below the Hudson Valley. If you're in New Paltz, you're too far South. Rural communities upstate.
B) Edwards is on the ticket. Sharpton voters. A lot of them hate Kerry too. Female and African-American, 30-44 years in age, making 15-30,000 dollars a year, with some college education. They aren't in a union, but their husband is. They are registered Democrats, so no denigrating the Party. And they are moderates, so no extremist ideas. And most of them are something other than Catholic, Protestant, or Jewish. So, pitch it to Hindus, Muslims, or Wiccans. They are dissatisfied with Bush, so Roy and Ralph should attack George wherever possible. And they don't like Dean, either, so you can attack him too. They are against the civil unions, so pitch the FMA all you want with them. They are free traders, so Ralph should tone it down a bit. Their top issue is improving education in this country. Emphasize your plans for that. And they like someone who cares about people, so get out a lot into their homes and neighborhoods. That's the five boros by the way. If you hit Yonkers, Jersey, or Nassau, you're out of range.
Hope this helps guys.
