South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, a darling of the conservative right, is now coming under attack from fellow Republicans for refusing to spend stimulus money on rebuilding the state's crumbling schools.
Republican State Senator Hugh Leatherman told CNN that Sanford was just playing politics to curry favor with the far right. Leatherman said Sanford "cares nothing about the state, cares nothing about the people he governs."
In this interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, Sanford responds to Leatherman's criticism, admitting that even though he has refused to spend the stimulus money (he bizarrely claims spending the money will hurt poor people), the state legislature will overturn his decision on a bipartisan basis.
