I've noticed some nice things happening this week besides the censure move.
Being in Ireland, the only news I can get from the States except CNN International (which doesn't cover a whole lot of US news) is our favorite enemy, Fox News. To avoid a lot of questions, yes, I do keep a vomit bucket near my chair, and, yes, I do take a lot of extra showers. But there have been a couple of delightful changes to note this week.
The first was that their nasty coverage on illegal immigrants has almost been dropped after the march in Chicago. I think they got really scared seeing 100,000 people hit the streets...and in Chicago of all places. They might have expected it in, say, San Antonio, but not in the "Heartland", Gods forbid! Where next? Boston? Whew, lots of voters turning against the Repugs in unusual places. Better turn down the clamor on this issue, and they did.
Then, Fox has finally noticed that Bush's ratings are falling. Lots of talk about "Bush had better give a lot more speeches and get those darn ole ratings up", except every time he gives a speech it doesn't help his ratings much or for long. They've noticed that, too. The dithering is fun to watch; they don't know which way to go or what to do next.
Googling around, I saw that a group of pharmacists..from Texas... was going to call on Bush because they are going broke with Medicare D. What tickled me was the line that most small pharmacies were repug voters. Medicare D - Win some, lose a bunch!
Bush's Repug base is falling away. A few weeks ago he still had maybe 80% of his base on his side. This week it has fallen to 67%.
I like this week's news. Mexican-American voters = going. Pharmacists = going. Port deal = repugs = going. And it is only Tuesday!
