Via Greg Sargent, top GOP strategist Whit Ayres thinks the foiled attack on Times Square is really great political news for Republicans:
"Democrats are always suspect on national security, and anything that makes them look weak on national security creates an opportunity for Republicans," said Whit Ayres, a GOP pollster.
Ah, yes. The failed underpants bomber and the foiled Times Square attack (and the arrest of Faisal Shahzad really are perfect examples of just how weak Democrats are on national security. And that must mean the successful 9/11 attack and the disastrous war in Iraq are perfect examples of just how strong Republicans are.
It's either that or Ayres is saying that he is secretly rooting for the terrorists because a successful attack on the U.S. would end up being a political bonanza for the GOP.
Take your pick, Whit.
