You are in the the 32nd Child Diary of the Liveblog of the 2011 Egyptian Uprising and other uprisings spreading throughout the Mideast. We stand with our Egyptian friends and their courageous struggle for freedom.
DO NOT REC THIS DIARY! Rec the Mothership here.
(The idea is to keep the Mothership visible on the rec list, with links therein to the child diaries where we can discuss the events. This prevents multiple liveblog diaries taking up slots on the rec list.)

Update: As of 18:30 EST reports/coverage of military forces firing into the air to break up pro-Mubarak protesters and other protesters appear to have abated - AJE saying that more shots may have been fired in Alexandria "in the last few minutes" @ 18:40ish - it was unclear if this referred to the original incident or a second outbreak, though no further incidents have been reported as of 19:20ish EST. President Obama is expected to speak imminently.
Update: President Obama has made a speech praising the Egyptian military for their non-interference and peacekeeping role and the Egyptian people for protecting their cultural heritage. He confirmed that he has spoken to Mubarak, who "recognises that the status-quo is not sustainable". He also stated that whilst it is not our role to dictate matters, that a peaceful transfer of power "must begin now", leading to free and fair elections and a government responsive to the Egyptian people. Finally, he made a commitment to providing support to the Egyptian people in rebuilding from their current hardship.
