The Return of a Hillary Supporter..thanks Palin!

Let me start off by saying its been about 6 months or so since I wrote a diary here. I was part of the hillary writers strike and I just couldnt stand you guys over here at kos. I hated it.

Then Obama won the nod and yeap, I supported him. He was always a good man and a great campaigner. But I couldn't get myself back into things. I just didn't have that extra push. I barely came to dailykos and I still felt on the outside of the whole Obama miracle.

And then came Sarah Palin.

Hillary Raised $6mil in 24hours

http://thepage.time.com/...

I'm not betting the house on any of these numbers, but if this is true that means hillary was able to keep pace with Obama + the Kerry List. Which is pretty impressive if you think about it.

I guess her money troubles may be a thing of the past.

The staff is now getting paid.

All of that is good and all if in fact this is true, its difficult to say what is and what isn't this campaign season.

BREAKING: Last Ras C-47, O-40

Yes, I cherry pick polls but here is the last (before sup tues) rasmussen national tracking:

http://rasmussenreports.com/...

Hillary gained a point and Barack stayed at 40. I'm not sure if gallup is coming out with one last national tracking.

I also would like to take this opportunity to ask if anybody knows about possible exit polls coming out and if so when.

I would like to say good luck to the clinton people and obama people in that order. Yes, you know where I stand. I would also like to say good luck to ronald reagan, mitt romney, ron paul and john mccain. in that order. because that's pretty much the GOP's order of themselves anyway (save a move or two for jonny macccccccain.)

BREAKING: Survey USA

http://www.surveyusa.com/...

CALI
C-53%
O-41%

Missouri
C-54%
O-43%

MASS
C-56%
O-39%

Overall, these numbers are very good for Hillary. Maybe Zogby isn't correct?? Or maybe he is? Who knows. My head aches.

I wonder if indeed MA could be a tie if so many outlets show a double digit hillary lead.

The Polling % of Women is important. Any poll with less than 57% women is going to be off. Many polls still do general election breakdown 52-48

Its here. At first I thought Kos was going to be a bit more well, open-minded, but here it is. This is no longer a blog for liberals to chat and discuss and build for the Democratic Party.

Instead, its a blog for Obama.

Hillary's 800,000+ votes don't mean anything

When all is said and done tonight, over 800,000 people will have turned out in Florida and voted for Hillary. That's fairly amazing. I know for those to whom this isn't good news, there will be a story.."oh, its not REALLY an election. it doesn't matter at all. its meaningless. zero. nada. nothing"

But think about it for a second, Hillary turned out nearly a MILLION voters tonight, and she didn't even (or some might say barely) campaigned.

If absolutely nothing else, it shows a few things:

Hillary:The Hil is Dead. Long Live the Hil

What I really, really enjoy about the current mainstream press is that somehow its over for hillary. Not to make a big mention of it, but our favorite website drudge is even asking, is this the end?

Is this the end for hil? she's maybe 1pt behind in NH (thats a tie, if you're into statistics). she's been leading or a close second in iowa. (I'm not going to link to these polls because you all know the NH & Iowa polls, if you want I can repost the links)

she's totally destroying the field in nevada....(http://www.pollster.com/08-NV-Dem-Pres-Primary.php)

Why I'm switching to Hillary

A lot of folks on this site might remember me as a big Edwards supporter. I even was critical of Kos when he said Edwards didn't have the money to compete in the General. I flirted a bit with the Obama campaign, because I just loved some of Obama's speeches and I think he is simply a good, good man.

But I'm switching to Hillary right now. That could change, I'm apparently a swing voter this primary season.

this isn't so much of a diary as it is an inquiry. it was mentioned in a few days ago that kos was in pain and couldn't get a CT scan.

any news on that?

im pretty sure that he had blue cross blue shield in cali, which is apparently a few steps away from a death sentence. at any rate, if anybody has any thoughts, please tell.

Here's a little sense of what our good senators think of about war with Iran. Yes, there is a lot of disappointment to go around. But Hillary voting for a resolution that senses we should use "military instruments" against Iran?

In the most recent issue, Ted Sorensen was asked by Washington Monthly to write a speech for the 2008 Democratic Candidate at the Convention. He came up with this.

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/...

Here is what I think are the best lines of the speech.

We remain essentially a nation under siege.

Domestic Violence Isn't Just a Woman's Problem

From what we know so far about the crimes at Virginia Tech, the gunman was an angry man who wanted to kill is girlfriend...Domestic violence.

in other words: a woman's problem. so not really important. violence against women is widespread in this country and around the world. in american we think: sure, we should do something about it. but it's just not that big an issue. how many presidential debates focus on this type of violence? yet it effects millions of women in america every second.

One of the things that bothers me most about the whole "obama is a uniter" thing is that this is a guy who too often bashes the democrats as not being [fill in the blank]. The democrats aren't religious enough, the democrats don't do enough, the democrats do too much.

Here's a link on obama
http://www.washingtonpost.com/...

But I gotta tell you, the comments Joe Biden made to his GOP audience that kos front-paged have to take the cake. First off, the comments are racist. But they're only racist because that's what Biden thinks the GOP is. And whatever the GOP is, he's got to be. Why? Because he's a uniter. Which means you support the GOP and fuck the democrats.

Land of the Free, Home of the Dead Girls

One of things I remember most about the lead-up to the Iraqi war was the talk about domestic violence. I mean, who talks about little-d domestic violence when saddam is on your tail. Shut up the wife! We've got some fighting to do.

After all--to "solve" our problems, the solution..the final solution..has always been simple:

GET YOUR GUN, BOY. GET YOUR GUN.

we'll he got his gun. he and shot the girls in Colorado. and then he shot them in Pennsylvania.

And you liberals can just shut up because this isnt the work of guns this is the work of crazy men.

And you liberals can just shut up because crazy men shouldn't be in institutions--those are too expensive.

The cost of housing the mentally ill is just too expensive. Better to pay with the little dead girls. Because those can be pretty cheap.

CNN is now reporting that "federal health officials" have approved the morning after pill for sale without a prescription.

Like other approved drugs by "federal officials" this is big, breaking news. Oh wait, no that isnt true. I think this is the first time I've ever seen a pill get breaking news status.

punishment and control
So congress passed yet another abortion restriction, taking further steps to undermine Roe. What's interesting about the current law is it touches on all the elements of true conservativism, or true Republicanism, as they both are the same today.

Conservatism is really about 2 things that are interconnected: punishment and control. You can't have one without the other. Without the ability to control, you wouldnt be able to exact punishment. This new abortion law is a great example. Without the abililty to FORCE a young girl to inform her parents about her pregnancy, you wouldnt be able to beat the sh-- out of her, call her a whore, disgrace her or force her to carry an unwanted child to term. You need to be able to control her to exact those punishments.

Dems open up 20pt congressional lead
Quick diary because its just a poll. But its a HUGE poll. The democratic congressional generic ballot question is now 52-32 dems. That is a largest lead I've seen yet for the congress. An excellent mark coming into the summer..

http://news.yahoo.com/...

It was conducted before al-Zarqawi. Interesting to see the effect of that..

For whom the bell tolls...

It didn't surprise me too much that the american media are celebrating the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi like we have just won the world series. It doesn't surprise me too much that some of my more liberal friends are thrilled that "we got him, we got him!"

I guess I was a bit surprised though to see the front page post by Bill in Maine that said:

"They found his body in the bedroom. And the kitchen. And the den. And the garage. And the neighbor's apartment."

Hillary, go the f--k home, will you?

This caught my eye. Its an article in Newsday, covering Hillary speaking about W.

"He's been very willing to talk. He's been affable. He's been good company," said the New York Democrat, referring to her one-on-one exchanges with the Republican president. "He is someone who has a lot of charm and charisma, and I think in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, I was very grateful to him for his support for New York."

Here's the article
http://www.newsday.com/...

Now, I know. Its in the Clinton name to praise Republicans. And I know how Bill Clinton is BFF with George Bush Sr. I just think it sucks. I think that talk where the top democrats praise and coddle Republicans, while they send the dogs on us--is NOT leadership. Not even close

48%

48% of women voted for George W. Bush. It was a high water mark for the GOP, better than W had done in 2000, way better than Dole, and definitely better than his father. The GOP, with its message of security and war, had convinced women that they would only be safe, if W is president.

Had women voted traditionally--that is, had women voted in the patterns they usually do, Kerry would have won. But in 2004, women felt that John Kerry wouldn't be good for them. Women felt George W. Bush would be good for them.

Today, women see one of the results of electing W.

F**k you, Carville..and all the Republican Lites
Yeah, I got this off of Drudge but I'm posting it anyway:

http://media.dailynorthwestern.com/pages/drudge/434637e79a469.html

From the article:

If Democrats try to single out every issue, they're back to litany, Carville said. He also said Democrats just can't say "no" to causes from gay rights to abortion to the poor.

Great. We GOT TO STOP defending the poor for crying out loud, we do we keep pandering to the poor? what do they have to complain about? and enough with your gay and your abortion rights. Carville wants the democrats to be democrats. Well, maybe not.

"Sometimes the problem with being a Democrat is being a Democrat," he said.

BLACKS MUST VOTE

i know black americans vote. but they do not vote enough. every single voting-eligible black american has to get to the polls.

the answer to all this hell, all this unspeakable treatment of black americans, is to get involved. the motto of black america has to be: remember new orleans. remember new orleans. remember new orleans.

this is no longer an issue of affirmative action/equal rights. which are in themselves so important. this has become an issue of life and death.

black americans can turn the entire political structure in the USA around if they got out in great numbers.

get to the polls. vote. vote. vote.

leadership is needed. we need more black leaders in the democratic party. im serious. i know dean was working on this but we need more. we must bring some type of ownership back to black americans in the political process.

This is the only long term response to new orleans that can protect black americans. vote. vote...VOTE.

the GOP in an emergency
I've read about the problems facing the folks affected by Katrina. The depth of the situation--how it requires emergency plans, rescue people, healthcare people, police/national guard to keep order...not to mention food, water, shelter and the eroding conditions already of people that are well enough to see whats happening.

In an emergency, it is natural to look to leadership. Look around. The GOP run the show here. How are they doing in this emergency? And no, this isnt a media-fest free pass that bush got on 9-11. He'll be judged now on what he does and not what we pretend he does. What is the GOP REALLY made of?

You know what a terror attack means. It means that anything a democrat says that has anything to do with our "petty" issues is just ridicilous. In other words, if there is terror anywhere, the best defense is to overturn roe.

Standing on the Shoulders of the Dead

If what Gallup says is true, I am proud of Americans today. Today that didnt let Bush do what he has done now for nearly his entire tenure in office. Which is, to take all of his past policy failures and tuck them behind himself and "rise" above all the issues of the day by talking about "remembering 9/11" . Remembering 9/11 has always helped W raise himself in the public eye..using the deaths and tragedy of NYC to get himself and his colleages a different benchmark for performance. Blair is trying it now as attention is focused on "leadership" and "resolve".

Each simply basks at the spotlight of tragedy, standing on the shoulders of the dead in hopes of winning political gain.

The Inevitable Attack
Yesterday I posted a diary saying that a new right wing talking point was going to be that "the next attack on the USA is inevitable"
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/7/8/121341/6186

Today, CNN runs the article I had predicted:

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/07/08/us.reaction.ap/index.html

Right Wing: Terrorism is inevitable
this is my second diary today but i wanted to bring out a current right-wing meme that i've seen alot in the last 24 hours:

Terrorism is inevitable.
 *you cant protect everything
 *protecting subways is impossible
*you cant stop a "determined" terrorist [thanks mitt romney]
*they only need to be successful once, even if we're successful 1000times [no f-king kidding]

DESTROYING THE CULT of TERROR
I was reading some of the ridicilous right wing comments made yesterday [ie, "if you're a liberal, you deserve to day"] and there was one quote that actually made some sense.

It was the one that said we should take "their kids away" so that they're not indoctrinated into terrorism.

Of course, you don't take kids away from innocent people. But the above quote got about as close to the real problem as any right winger could reasonable be expected to get.

On being ALIVE..for now
Let me preface this with telling you that i was in NYC for 9/11. Terrorism is very, very entangled into my emotions, my view on politics, and most importantly my view on life.

After 9/11, i just couldnt figure it out: how do people go about planning things--buying tickets, packing bags, going to school, making investments..all of life's stuff, if you could easily go from alive to dead simply by being --standing, seated, going, leaving--in a certain place.

"liberal elites" wont join miliary

This is a distrubing article

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8186600/site/newsweek/

In it, John McCain claims that Ivy league schools not letting military recruiters is the "height of elitism"

The fake-moderate senator forgets that many folks within the ivy league community didnt want the war in the first place. And that 0% of GOP leaders in congress and the senate have their kids in the military.

black vote = our answer to the evangelicals?
First off, i dont want to say that the black vote is just one block of votes and that all blacks have the same issues and so forth.

i do want to say the blacks support the democratic party in higher % terms than evangelicals support the GOP

[around 80% of evangelicals went for bush, but 90% or so of blacks voted for kerry]

90%!!!! if you think about that number, its INSANE that the democrats dont focus more on the black vote. Imagine if the democrats could get black voters as energized as evangelicals?
So it appears MA governor Romney is all but saying he's not running for relection.

He today said he'd back his lt. governor, Kerry Healey as the GOP candidate in 2006 for governor

I built this bridge with PIE

If you've been around you know pie and you know me.

This diary is built on pie. But its also built on Asians and Hispanics.

This diary is about coalitions--successful coalitions.

Politics is about coalitions. Successful politics is about coalitions.

In fact, the more I learn, the more I think the ONLY thing successful politics is about is building coalitions.

Kos's position makes us lose families...

I read thru, as quickly as possible the pie-stuff..right off, let me tell you this diary isnt about who is right or wrong..[at least i'll try to keep that off as much as possible]

But I want to tell you why we lose either way.

The Pie piece got 800 comments, the last time Kos posted a perceived anti-women piece [the one about NARAL] he got at least 600 comments.

These positions got more response then anything I've seen in awhile.

Why? And why does it matter?
Let them eat PRIDE
So the recent jobs report is out. 78,000 new jobs. kossacks know by now that we need AT LEAST 150,000 +/- 50,000 jobs each month just to keep up with new entrants into the job market.

what does this number mean?

one: obviously, the job market sucks
two: less obviously, the bond market going further into bubble territory

three: even less obvious: the need to re-inforce ideas of pride, to make up for the lose of jobs/money.
