<title>Tax Dollars at Work:  Pentagon pays $998 K for 2 $.19 washers!</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/8/17/372729/-Tax-Dollars-at-Work-Pentagon-pays-998-K-for-2-19-washers</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;In a stunning example of the Pentagon&#x27;s paying prowess, C&#x26;amp;D Distributors, a &#x22;small parts supplier&#x22; in South Carolina, charged more than &#x3C;strong&#x3E;$20.5 million dollars&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; in fraudulent shipping &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://news.yahoo.com/s/bloomberg/20070816/pl_bloomberg/ardg6dwccmfi&#x22;&#x3E;costs:&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;It&#x27;s good these guys were caught, but here&#x27;s where I think the problem really lies:
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;``The majority, if not all of these parts, were going to high-priority, conflict areas -- that&#x27;s why they got paid,&#x27;&#x27; Stroot said. If the item was earmarked ``priority,&#x27;&#x27; destined for the military in Iraq, Afghanistan or certain other locations, `&#x3C;strong&#x3E;`there was no oversight.&#x27;&#x27;&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;(emphasis mine).&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;More after the jump.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>It&#x27;s been a rough week, but at least there&#x27;s still Baseball</title>

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I figure that Mark Buehrle&#x27;s no-hitter is cause enough to begin my diary entering on DailyKos...&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Anyhow, Mark Buehrle just tossed a no-hitter against the Texas Rangers. &#x26;nbsp;It may just be a cold Wednesday night in Chicago, but we&#x27;re celebrating here on the South Side. &#x26;nbsp;As a lifelong Sox fan, I&#x27;m a little mad that I wasn&#x27;t even watching this particular game on TV, but it would sure as hell have been better to even be there. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://proxy.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=270418104&#x22;&#x3E;You can check out ESPN&#x27;s coverage here.&#x3C;/a&#x3E; &#x26;nbsp;I guess I picked the wrong cold game at The Cell when I went last week.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
