<title>Someone must stand up to Big Oil</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/9/5/1327365/-Someone-must-stand-up-to-Big-Oil</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Today, I will stand in front of the Nebraska Supreme Court to block the path of the Keystone XL pipeline. In doing so, I will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with a powerful new coalition of activists and landowners that I believe has the potential to fundamentally realign American politics.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Someone has to stand up to Big Oil and its kind. I am. So are three Nebraskans who gave their names as plaintiffs to our efforts. It isn&#x2019;t just the pipeline that moves us; it&#x2019;s also the tactics of corporate bullies. You see, there are at least two different categories of arguments against the Keystone XL pipeline.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Social Security Must Be Kept Intact, Not Privatized</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/8/12/1320989/-Social-Security-Must-Be-Kept-Intact-Not-Privatized</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;My Grandma Minnie Hansen was a happy, loving person. Widowed at 64, she lived alone in her little house on Cedar Street in Coleridge NE (pop 600). Grandma enjoyed church on Sundays and card games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren until she died -- peacefully -- at the age of 93. The family helped out Minnie here and there, but for the most part she lived independently thanks to one of the most successful domestic policies in American history, the Social Security Act.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;This year the Social Security Act turned 79. I hope all Americans&#x2013; young and old &#x2013; join me in celebrating our commitment to caring for one another across the generations. &#x26;nbsp;Still younger than Grandma Minnie, and still taking care of millions of Americans like her.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Without Social Security, Grandma Minnie would have lived in poverty. With it she did not. Today, a little over 8% of all American women live in poverty. Without Social Security, that number would soar to nearly 44%!&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
