<title>Did Joe Miller fulfill his West Point obligation?</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/8/26/896420/-Did-Joe-Miller-fulfill-his-West-Point-obligation</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;This diary raises a question that may have a perfectly innocuous answer, or not, but I have yet to see this discussed in any news accounts. Joe Miller may be the GOP candidate for Senate in Alaska, pending the outcome of hotly-contested primary. As many of you know, Miller received the endorsement of Sarah Palin and is considered to be a Republican of the &#x22;Tea Party&#x22; variety.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Palin: Dinosaurs and Man 6,000 Years Old</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/29/614126/-Palin-Dinosaurs-and-Man-6-000-Years-Old</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Today the LA Times is reporting that, at least in 1997, Sarah Palin was a &#x22;Young Earth Creationist&#x22;:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Soon after Sarah Palin was elected mayor of the foothill town of Wasilla, Alaska, she startled a local music teacher by insisting in casual conversation that men and dinosaurs coexisted on an Earth created 6,000 years ago -- about 65 million years after scientists say most dinosaurs became extinct -- the teacher said.

<title>Hamdan Sentence - 5 1/2 Years</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/7/564263/-Hamdan-Sentence-5-1-2-Years</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Salim Hamdan was sentenced to 5 1/2 years in prison, significantly less than prosecutors requested:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Earlier Thursday, during his sentencing hearing, Hamdan told a military court that he never suspected bin Laden was a terrorist until after the September 11, 2001, attacks.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Prosecutors weren&#x27;t buying his story and recommended he be sent to prison for 30 years to life.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Hamdan, speaking through a translator, gave the unsworn testimony one day after six officers convicted him of providing material support to al Qaeda but cleared him of terrorism conspiracy charges.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;He will be eligible for release in 6 months:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Hamdan has been imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay since 2002. The judge has given him credit for five years of prison time.

<title>Iraq Banned from 2008 Olympics</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/7/24/556176/-Iraq-Banned-from-2008-Olympics</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;CNN just broke this story on their website:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- The International Olympic Committee has banned Iraq from competing in the upcoming Summer Olympics games because of what it says is political interference by the government in sports.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;An Iraqi Olympic Committee official said the IOC sent letters in Arabic and English confirming the ban.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>&#x22;Liberty City 7&#x22; Case Ends in Second Mistrial</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/4/16/496879/--Liberty-City-7-Case-Ends-in-Second-Mistrial</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Remember those seven Americans from Miami who were accused in June 2006 of plotting to destroy the Sears Tower in Chicago? The government&#x27;s second attempt at prosecuting them has resulted in a mistrial:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The decision comes after 13 days of deliberation and marks the second time government prosecutors have failed to convince a jury that the six defendants were guilty of terror-related charges.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;It is unclear whether the government will pursue a third trial against the defendants.

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;With all the important primary election news and the Spitzer minute-to-minute coverage, many Americans are missing out on the latest developments in U.S.-occupied Iraq. A brief and ugly summary:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Iraq Surge = 20 Somalias</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/2/5/450237/-Iraq-Surge-20-Somalias</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;With all the &#x22;surge is working&#x22; going around these days, I thought it worth putting the recent U.S. losses in Iraq into perspective. &#x26;nbsp;I will ignore for the moment the complete lack of political progress and just look at the U.S. casualty numbers. &#x26;nbsp;While the number of U.S. servicemembers killed has been reduced from the horrific figures of 2005-2006, the toll has essentially returned to the 2003 rate.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>80 Gitmo Lawyers Back Obama</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/1/29/445363/-80-Gitmo-Lawyers-Back-Obama</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Senator Obama received an interesting endorsement today:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;WASHINGTON -- More than 80 attorneys who have been offering free-of-charge legal services to Guant&#x26;#225;namo detainees issued a statement Monday supporting Democrat Barack Obama&#x27;s presidential bid.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x27;&#x27;We are at a critical point in the presidential campaign, and as lawyers who have been deeply involved in the Guant&#x26;#225;namo litigation to preserve the important right to habeas corpus, we are writing to urge you to support Senator Obama,&#x27;&#x27; the lawyers said in an open letter dated Monday.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Lawyers signing it included partners from major U.S. law firms and small-town practitioners as well as Michael Ratner, whose New York Center for Constitutional Rights has for years coordinated legal efforts to provide representation to each of the men held without charge at the offshore prison compound in southeast Cuba.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Alan Keyes Finally Allowed Into Debate</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/12/12/421181/-Alan-Keyes-Finally-Allowed-Into-Debate</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Many Americans may not be aware that former Ambassador Alan Keyes is a Republican presidential candidate. Why? Because Keyes has been systematically excluded from polls and Republican debates from the time he announced in September. Even today MSNBC, CNN, and FOXNEWS all fail to even list Keyes as a candidate.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;But wait, Alan Keyes is debating today:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;DES MOINES &#x26;mdash; On Wednesday, Fox News, CNN, and C-SPAN are slated to air a presidential debate sponsored by Iowa Public Television and the Des Moines Register. This is the last Republican debate before the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;For the first time, all nine major candidates will share the stage. Joining Alan Keyes will be Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, Tom Tancredo, John McCain, Ron Paul, Fred Thompson, and Duncan Hunter.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The event will begin at 2 p.m. EST (1 p.m. CST, 12 p.m. MST, and 11 a.m. PST).

<title>Obama Email Myths: My Thanksgiving Wake Up Call</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/11/28/415402/-Obama-Email-Myths-My-Thanksgiving-Wake-Up-Call</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Many of you know about the emails in circulation claiming that Barack Obama is some kind of radical Muslim terrorist plant. &#x26;nbsp;In case you haven&#x27;t, here&#x27;s a taste:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Obama takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a radical Muslim...
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Some emails also include a claim that Senator Obama refused to be sworn in on the Bible and instead used a Koran (conflating the story about Minnesota Congressman Keith Ellison, who is a Muslim).&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp&#x22;&#x3E;http://snopes.com/...&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>President Bush, Commute Marion Jones&#x27; Sentence</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/10/6/394758/-President-Bush-Commute-Marion-Jones-Sentence</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Yesterday we learned:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;NEW YORK (CNN) -- Track star Marion Jones pleaded guilty Friday to lying to a federal investigator about taking banned substances.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;And:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Federal sentencing guidelines suggest Jones could face jail time. She has been ordered back to court on January 11, 2008, for sentencing.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/10/05/jones.doping/index.html&#x22;&#x3E;http://www.cnn.com/...&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Jones went before the public on television last night to ask for forgiveness from the American people. Although she had denied rumors of illegal substance use for years, last night she did not minimize her actions, attempt to shift blame, or make excuses. She called her lies to federal investigators &#x22;incredibly stupid.&#x22; According to press reports Jones, now 31 years old, made a full confession and told the Federal District Court that she began taking performance enhancing substances beginning in 1999.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Congressman - CIA Faked 2002 Iraq Drone Photos</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/8/24/375756/-Congressman-CIA-Faked-2002-Iraq-Drone-Photos</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Representative Paul Kanjorski (D-PA) held a Town Hall meeting in the 11th District near Bloomsburg on Thursday, August 23, 2007. According to the local newspaper, Kanjorski expressed his view that there is no military victory possible in Iraq.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Nothing particularly surprising in that. What Kanjorski said next about his decision to vote for the 2002 Authorization to Use Military Force is the interesting part - at least to those of us who still care about how we got into this mess in the first place. Call me old fashioned, but I think our representatives should not base their votes on fabricated evidence.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
