<title>Iran Marble Makes Israel Impervious to Existential Threats </title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/8/31/897858/-Iran-Marble-Makes-Israel-Impervious-to-Existential-Threats</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;According to &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.edmaysproductions.net/webvideo/irannuke.wmv&#x22;&#x3E;Keith Weissman, AIPAC&#x3C;/a&#x3E; was behind the first set of sanctions imposed on Iran, back in 1995, when Weissman helped to write the Executive Order that Bill Clinton signed, and the later Libya and Iran Sanctions legislation that established the Order as law.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;As Weissman explained in the linked video, those sanctions on Iran were &#x22;a waste of energy,&#x22; were &#x22;ineffective,&#x22; but did harm American interests and did derail the Khatami government&#x27;s outreach toward repairing Iranian-American relations. &#x26;nbsp;With regard to the harm to American interests, Weissman noted that Conoco was forced to forgo a very favorable contract to develop Iranian oilfields. &#x26;nbsp;Robin Wright has testified in other places that that lost contract cost several thousand American jobs.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>&#x22;Or Compensation Paid for By the Perpetrating Country . . .&#x22;</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/8/30/897466/--Or-Compensation-Paid-for-By-the-Perpetrating-Country</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Late last week a civil discussion on I/P broke out.
&#x3C;br /&#x3E;My goofy self is tempted to say, That&#x27;s the news; end of story! &#x26;nbsp;But that&#x27;s not the thought that motivated this diary and that I want to explore further.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Some sound proposals were presented for settling claims of both sides. &#x26;nbsp;Several individuals commented on their personal situations in which family members had lost property and/but moved on with their lives in other places. &#x26;nbsp;Part of the discussion involved assessment of why Palestinians had not &#x22;moved on with their lives;&#x22; whether neighboring Arab states should be blamed for failing to take in Palestinian refugees; that Jews who left German or Arab or Iranian lands-- ie. the individuals whose family members lost property/moved on -- &#x26;nbsp;should be compensated for their losses.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The comment, below the fold, culminated the exchange and is the springboard for this diary:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
