<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;In a &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/8/12/892583/-Religious-Leaders-to-Palin-GingrichKnock-it-Off!-UPDATE&#x22;&#x3E;diary currently on the Rec List,&#x3C;/a&#x3E; we learn of a group of brave religious leaders who have stood up for the actual core values espoused by their diverse faiths. &#x26;nbsp;It can&#x27;t be easy to do so, and to do so as eloquently as they have, given the intense feelings around the Cordoba House issue. &#x26;nbsp;Bravo for them. &#x26;nbsp; They LIVE their values.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Dear Republicans Who Are Outraged by the Healthcare Bill:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I share your pain. &#x26;nbsp;What happened yesterday was an outrage. &#x26;nbsp;It was the destruction of this proud country as we know it. &#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;We must register our anger to this rogue U.S. Government who want to INVADE OUR LIVES and TAKE AWAY OUR LIBERTY.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Once this healthcare outrages kicks into full gear, there will be plenty of chances to register our disgust with this socialist nightmare. &#x26;nbsp;But we don&#x27;t have to wait!&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Make Republicans answer: &#x22;Why do you want to kill Medicare?&#x22;</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/2/24/840203/-Make-Republicans-answer-Why-do-you-want-to-kill-Medicare</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;The Republican party has been getting away with a Big Lie for a long time, but especially in this past year of the healthcare fight. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;As we saw this summer, ignorant rightwingers ranted in town halls meetings against &#x22;government-run healthcare&#x22; while at the same time demanded that &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/07/28/why-americans-hate-single-payer-insurance/&#x22;&#x3E;government keep its hands off Medicare&#x3C;/a&#x3E; -- which is, needless to say for anyone operating with more than a brain stem, a &#x3C;em&#x3E;government-run healthcare&#x3C;/em&#x3E; program.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;We can write off the fringe dopes for not knowing which way is up. &#x26;nbsp;But elected Republicans around the country -- as well as their media mouthpieces -- know better. &#x26;nbsp; And yet most of them continue to spread the lie that they support Medicare, and always have... and that somehow, Medicare isn&#x27;t a government-run healthcare program.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;We can and should use their shamelessness against them in this home stretch of the healthcare battle. &#x26;nbsp;Actually, we should use it forever and ever -- anytime a Republican (or sadly, a rightwing Democrat) starts spreading lies about healthcare reform. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>General Petraeus: against torture; FOR closing Gitmo</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/5/26/735533/-General-Petraeus-against-torture-FOR-closing-Gitmo</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;What will the Republicans do now?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The man that they declared over and over was above criticism, &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Petraeus&#x22;&#x3E;General David Petraeus&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, has now gone on record contradicting the chickenhawk heads of the Republican party: &#x26;nbsp;Cheney, Limbaugh, and Gingrich.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;In &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.rferl.org/content/transcript_RFERL_Interviews_US_Central_Command_Chief_General_David_Petraeus/1738626.html&#x22;&#x3E;an interview with Radio Free Europe&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, Petraeus said that the U.S. should follow the Geneva Conventions that ban torture (that treaty included the prohibition of &#x22;waterboarding&#x22; a.k.a. water torture).&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;He also said that it&#x27;s a good idea to close the Guantanamo prison. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Excerpt from the interview below:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>[UPDATE: Cliff Schecter weighs in below] Democrats: if you&#x27;re going on TV, learn how to &#x22;debate!&#x22; </title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/5/23/734691/--UPDATE-Cliff-Schecter-weighs-in-below-Democrats-if-you-re-going-on-TV-learn-how-to-debate</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;UPDATE:&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/comments/2009/5/23/111157/247/214#c214&#x22;&#x3E;Cliff Schecter himself weighs in&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, way down in comments.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;**********&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I was struck in &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/5/23/734579/-Too-Fast,-Too-Furious:ODonnell-DESTROYS-Cheney&#x22;&#x3E;Al Rodger&#x27;s recommended diary&#x3C;/a&#x3E; how much Liz Cheney tries to use the standard Republican &#x22;debating&#x22; tactic against Lawrence O&#x27;Donnell: &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;constant interruption, fillibuster, and whining. &#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;O&#x27;Donnell doesn&#x27;t do a bad job in the face of this -- he&#x27;s a pretty seasoned talking head, and capable of holding his own better than most. &#x26;nbsp; However, it&#x27;s beyond frustrating to see how often this tactic works. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Here&#x27;s a little primer for Democrats who are considering going on TV to &#x22;debate&#x22; politics with Republicans. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>&#x22;Taxation is theft!&#x22;</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/4/16/720940/--Taxation-is-theft</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;We all saw a lot of variations on that slogan yesterday during coverage of TeaBagFest. &#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;It&#x27;s a complaint as old as history itself. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Look, there are two basic choices here:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;ol&#x3E;&#x3C;li value=&#x22;1&#x22;&#x3E; &#x26;nbsp;Taxation is theft, period. &#x26;nbsp;Governments who tax, at no matter what level, are tyrants. &#x26;nbsp;They should be toppled.&#x3C;/li&#x3E;&#x3C;/ol&#x3E;
&#x3C;ol&#x3E;&#x3C;li value=&#x22;2&#x22;&#x3E; &#x26;nbsp;Taxation is a legitimate function for a government, though the level of taxation can be -- and always should be -- debated.&#x3C;/li&#x3E;&#x3C;/ol&#x3E;

<title>Drama queen Las Vegas mayor demands Obama apologize</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/2/11/696184/-Drama-queen-Las-Vegas-mayor-demands-Obama-apologize</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Barack Obama tries to be a reasonable, mature, respectful, inclusive leader. &#x26;nbsp;Good for him. &#x26;nbsp;It&#x27;s worth the effort, and Obama&#x27;s big victory in November -- as well and his continued high approval ratings -- show that the U.S. is clearly hungry for a President with such qualities.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The dark side of being someone even-tempered and magnanimous is that petty fools with unsolved emotional baggage will decide that YOU owe them an extra-super-duper big helping of ass-kissing. &#x26;nbsp;And if they don&#x27;t get it, they will scream, cry, and stomp their feet.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Case in point below:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Lieberman camp: &#x26;#160;America won&#x27;t be safe without Joe!</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/11/9/658168/-Lieberman-camp-160-America-won-t-be-safe-without-Joe</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Reason # 7913 that Joe Lieberman has no moral principles at all, and really is &#x3C;em&#x3E;all about Joe Lieberman&#x3C;/em&#x3E;, period, full stop:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;He seems to think that &#x3C;strong&#x3E;the United States is not safe unless he gets his committee chair back.&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;From the &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.courant.com/news/politics/hc-lieberman1108.artnov08,0,1521405.story&#x22;&#x3E;Hartford Courant&#x3C;/a&#x3E;:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x22;Sen. Lieberman prefers to remain in the Democratic caucus,&#x22; the [Lieberman] aide said. &#x22;However, &#x3C;strong&#x3E;he believes he should remain as chairman of the Homeland Security Committee. ... He thinks that political retribution should not go ahead of homeland security&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;.&#x22;
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E; In other words, there are NO OTHER PEOPLE out there who can keep us &#x22;safe&#x22; like Joementum. &#x26;nbsp;Booting him off as committee head would mean that the Democratic party is willing to endanger the citizens of the United States for petty reasons, because only Joe Lieberman&#x27;s awesome powers and mad skills can save them.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;(more below....)&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>How do we help President Obama?</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/11/5/654450/-How-do-we-help-President-Obama</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I&#x27;m still overjoyed at Barack Obama&#x27;s victory. &#x26;nbsp; And with many millions of people around the world, I&#x27;m basking in the promise of a new day for the U.S.A. &#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;But when President-elect Obama spoke last night, he made it clear that he knows the seriousness of his task, and that he intended to get right down to work. &#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;It made me want to follow his lead. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;So my question for the community today is -- &#x3C;strong&#x3E;how do we help President Barack Obama?&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; &#x26;nbsp; Please weigh in.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/10/28/644497/-McCain-s-pal-Liddy-re-ATF-shoot-for-the-head</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;There&#x27;s a story in the news today about a plot to kill Barack Obama and dozens of black citizens, including schoolchildren. &#x26;nbsp; It was &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/10/27/161817/18/881/643891&#x22;&#x3E;diaried here yesterday&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, with updates and hundreds of comments. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;According to the NY Times, the threats were &#x22;serious.&#x22; &#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;That&#x27;s not to say that the conspirators had gotten very far with the plan, or could even have pulled it off when the time came. &#x26;nbsp; But they were serious, they were armed, and they were planning on acquring more weapons. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;They also planned on killing children:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Dear GOP: sure, we&#x27;ll take those voters off your hands.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/10/21/637814/-Dear-GOP-sure-we-ll-take-those-voters-off-your-hands</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Dear Republican Party,&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Many of you are very busy these days explaining to the American people just which of them get to be called &#x3C;em&#x3E;&#x22;real Americans.&#x22;&#x3C;/em&#x3E; &#x26;nbsp; And who doesn&#x27;t.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Your vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin has been on an ongoing crusade lately to make sure that people who live in some areas of the U.S.A., or in certain population densities, know that they are NOT &#x3C;em&#x3E;real Americans&#x3C;/em&#x3E;, according to the Republican party.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Rep. Michelle Bachman of my state, Minnesota, is hellbent on letting many of us know that we&#x27;re not real Americans, either. &#x26;nbsp; And Rep. Robin Hayes of North Carolina just echoed this same idea today. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Republican talk host Michael Smerconish endorses Obama</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/10/18/634734/-Republican-talk-host-Michael-Smerconish-endorses-Obama</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Philadelphia-based Republican talk show host Michael Smerconish has now endorsed Barack Obama. &#x26;nbsp;He will have an editorial in the Philadelphia Inquirer to that effect soon, and he read excerpts of it on the air today on WPHT in Philadelphia.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I can&#x27;t say I&#x27;ve ever liked the guy much. &#x26;nbsp;But even though he&#x27;s subbed for Bill O&#x27;Reilly, Glen Beck, and other notable rightwing hate merchants on TV, in my opinion he&#x27;s not one of them. &#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;He recently admonished the McCain camp and his fellow Republicans for promoting the Bill Ayers propaganda, and he didn&#x27;t pussyfoot around.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;But make no mistake, he&#x27;s a hardcore conservative. &#x26;nbsp;And he &#x3C;em&#x3E;still&#x3C;/em&#x3E; thinks Obama would make a better president. &#x26;nbsp; Excerpts of his statement after the break:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I&#x27;m a great fan of &#x3C;strong&#x3E;John Cleese&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; of &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063929/&#x22;&#x3E;Monty Python&#x27;s Flying Circus&#x3C;/a&#x3E; and &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072500/&#x22;&#x3E;Fawlty Towers&#x3C;/a&#x3E;. &#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp; He and his cohorts have produced some of the funniest stuff ever for TV and movies, and they&#x27;re as smart as anyone around.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;So it was great to come upon an interview that John Cleese did the other day in which he pretty much nailed the (ahem) phenomenon of Sarah Palin. &#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp; According to Mr. Cleese, Sarah Palin is little more than a parrot who memorizes rightwing talking points and regurgitates them, even though she has little idea of what they mean.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;And he broke the sad news to his former Python-mate, &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Michael Palin&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;, that he&#x27;s not the funniest Palin anymore. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Video below: &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Sean Hannity&#x27;s pal: &#x22;Exterminate Jew Power.&#x22;</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/10/5/621250/-Sean-Hannity-s-pal-Exterminate-Jew-Power</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;Sean Hannity&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; is a Fox News star.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Fox News is a mouthpiece for the Republican Party. &#x26;nbsp;No serious, sane person believes otherwise.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;Sean Hannity is an anti-Semite&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; who loves to spotlight his fellow anti-Semites on this show.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;His latest pal said, charmingly:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;&#x22;Exterminate Jew Power.&#x22;&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Question: &#x26;nbsp;unless Fox News is openly anti-Semitic, why does Sean Hannity still have a job?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;(more details...)&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>McCain going negative? &#x26;#160;Let&#x27;s have Keating Five scandal 24/7.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/10/4/620079/-McCain-going-negative-160-Let-s-have-Keating-Five-scandal-24-7</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;The flop sweat has been showing for some time, but lately it&#x27;s been ankle-deep. &#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;John McCain is losing, and losing big. &#x26;nbsp; We know it, he knows it, everyone knows it. &#x26;nbsp; By every quantifiable measure, he&#x27;s screwed. &#x26;nbsp; And we win.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;But we&#x27;re told that Johnny the Drama Queen is gonna go out in grand melodramatic style, throwing the kitchen sink, the bathroom sink, the toilet bowl, and every bit of sewage he can grab at Barack Obama. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Barack Obama: first-rate intellect AND first-rate temperament.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/10/1/616393/-Barack-Obama-first-rate-intellect-AND-first-rate-temperament</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Supreme Court justice Oliver Wendell Holmes once said of FDR that he possessed &#x22;a second-rate intellect, but a first-rate temperament.&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Whatever you think of that assessment, and the slightly arcane language...&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I think in Barack Obama we&#x27;ll have a President with first-rate intellect AND a first-rate temperament. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;This is not to say that Obama is perfect, or to buy into the silly strawman argument rightwingers love so much about Obama being some kind of liberal &#x22;messiah.&#x22; &#x26;nbsp; I don&#x27;t believe that of &#x3C;em&#x3E;any&#x3C;/em&#x3E; politician, whatever their sterling qualities. &#x26;nbsp;If anyone, whatever his/her political leanings, is looking for the Answer to All Our Problems in anyone running for office, they&#x27;re sadly misguided. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;So my support for Barack Obama has nothing to do with wanting a savior. &#x26;nbsp;It comes from wanting a moral, mature, intelligent President, the likes of which we haven&#x27;t seen in a long time.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>McCain and Palin babble and whine - together! [VIDEO]</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/29/615057/-McCain-and-Palin-babble-and-whine-together-VIDEO</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;So John McCain is trying to pretend that Barack Obama has actually given up &#x3C;em&#x3E;tactical information to the terrorists &#x3C;/em&#x3E;by Obama&#x27;s general statement that if there was reliable intelligence about high-value targets in Pakistan, a la Osama Bin Laden, that he (Obama) might have to act and that strike without asking the Pakistani government.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;In his their debate last Friday, McCain tried to make a big stink about it again, in his typically obnoxious, condescending, charm-free best, acting as if Obama had blown the cover on a delicate military operation in progress, rather than talking about general policy and strategy -- as McCain does regularly. &#x26;nbsp; Obama had one of his more pointed defenses of the night when he needled McCain for his bellicose statements, including the grotesque &#x22;Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran&#x22; moment of shame.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Dear Republicans: George W. Bush is all YOURS.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/24/595164/-Dear-Republicans-George-W-Bush-is-all-YOURS</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;(expanded from a comment in &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/24/132723/025/414/608787&#x22;&#x3E;Meteor Blades&#x27; diary&#x3C;/a&#x3E;...)&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;So. &#x26;nbsp;George W. Bush will address the nation tonight. &#x26;nbsp; He&#x27;ll come out of hiding in the White House. &#x26;nbsp;He&#x27;ll take a quick break from doing (ssshhhh!) &#x3C;em&#x3E;lots of fundraising for the GOP and its candidates&#x3C;/em&#x3E;. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;He&#x27;ll step in front of the American people and try to scare us, again. &#x26;nbsp;This time he&#x27;ll try to scare us into forking over $750 billion of our tax money, immediately, no questions asked. &#x26;nbsp;He will take no responsibility, he will accept no questions. &#x26;nbsp;Only FEAR allowed here, citizens.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;And -- as we&#x27;ve already seen -- the Republican party will start calling this rape of the American taxpayer the &#x3C;strong&#x3E;&#x22;Bush-Pelosi Bailout.&#x22;&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;They want the Democratic party saddled with the Bush brand. &#x26;nbsp;They want progressives to be stuck with Mr. 19% Popularity, for now and for all of history... which they&#x27;re always busy revising.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;To HELL with that.&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Bush runs the Iraq play again. Will Congress fall for it?</title>

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;Will Congress fall for it AGAIN?&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;****&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The trillion-plus bailout demanded by George W. Bush and his Secretary of the Treasury, Henry Paulson, has a very familiar ring to it.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;In a word: &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;Iraq.&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Once again we&#x27;re being told that a situation is super-duper URGENT. &#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Once again we&#x27;re being told by Bush and company that if we don&#x27;t do exactly what they want, with no exceptions, and do it NOW, then WE are responsible for the horrible fate that the U.S.A. will reap.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>&#x22;Inventing the Internet&#x22;: John McCain vs. Al Gore</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/16/600705/--Inventing-the-Internet-John-McCain-vs-Al-Gore</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;(This diary is expanded from a comment I made in &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/16/63238/2462/721/600320&#x22;&#x3E;Devilstower&#x27;s front page diary&#x3C;/a&#x3E; today.)&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;So. &#x26;nbsp;It was&#x3C;strong&#x3E; John McCain&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; who invented the Internet, after all.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;At least that&#x27;s what John McCain is claiming.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;At least that&#x27;s what the talking heads in the media should be claiming that John McCain is claiming, with &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.sciencedebate2008.com/www/index.php?id=42&#x22;&#x3E;the release of this statement by McCain today&#x3C;/a&#x3E;:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x22;Under my guiding hand, Congress developed a wireless spectrum policy that spurred the rapid rise of mobile phones and Wi-Fi technology that enables Americans to surf the web while sitting at a coffee shop, airport lounge, or public park.&#x22;
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Palin:  &#x22;plane on eBay&#x22; not even her idea!</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/11/595054/-Palin-plane-on-eBay-not-even-her-idea</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;One by the one the pillars are falling. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Sarah Palin&#x27;s stories are being proven b.s., over and over. &#x26;nbsp; At some point we have to wonder: &#x26;nbsp;do ANY of them hold up to the slightest scrutiny?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Short answer: &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;em&#x3E;nope&#x3C;/em&#x3E;.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;When John McCain chose Sarah Palin to be the Shiny New Thing that gave life to his failing campaign, part of the narrative we were force-fed &#x3C;em&#x3E;ad infinitum&#x3C;/em&#x3E; is that &#x3C;em&#x3E;Palin sold the state plane on eBay&#x3C;/em&#x3E;.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Of course, this was supposed to show what a plucky, loveable, little cost-cutting housewife she was -- a real dose of common sense, taking it to those tax-and-spending fellow Republicans, with such an innovative idea. &#x26;nbsp;Selling it on eBay -- what a fresh and original idea from this fresh and original politician!&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;True?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Um, not so much.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Sarah Palin, the Welfare Queen Governor.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/9/591717/-Sarah-Palin-the-Welfare-Queen-Governor</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Republicans like John McCain and Sarah Palin love to rail against taxes and government spending. &#x26;nbsp; It&#x27;s the standard Republican script, and we saw from Palin&#x27;s heroes, big spenders George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. &#x26;nbsp;But it&#x27;s all b.s. &#x26;nbsp;All branding. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x22;Lies&#x22; would be the most accurate word, really. &#x26;nbsp; Because when it comes down to themselves and their cronies, boy howdy, do these Republicans love to grab taxpayer $$$. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;No one demonstrates this disgusting hypocrisy more than the&#x3C;strong&#x3E; Welfare Queen Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin.&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>The Republican party destroyed its chances tonight.</title>

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;They will lose. &#x26;nbsp; I guarantee it.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;These craven idiots really think that America wants another four-eight years of the guy whose approval rating has been stuck below 30% FOREVER.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Rudy Giuliani came off as an insane, ugly, foaming-at-the-mouth fanatic without a single thing to say that Karl Rove didn&#x27;t fart out roughly six years ago. &#x26;nbsp; He was rejected soundly in the primaries because when people get to know Rudy Giuliani more than a little, they LOATHE him. &#x26;nbsp; I thank God that the Republican party gave him such a huge chunk of primetime TV tonight. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Joe Lieberman vs. Joe Lieberman.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/3/584403/-Joe-Lieberman-vs-Joe-Lieberman</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Well, Holy Joe couldn&#x27;t resist getting up there and shilling for John McCain last night. &#x26;nbsp; He praised his hero McCain, and kissed up to the entire Republican party -- which has been his schtick for a couple of years now.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The David Broders of the world would still have us believe that Joe Lieberman is still some paragon of integrity, who tries to rise above party for the good of the country. &#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;But that ship sailed long ago -- if it ever was true (I happen to think not). &#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Joe Lieberman is about what&#x27;s good for Joe Lieberman, period. &#x26;nbsp; Like McCain, he&#x27;s obsessed with &#x3C;em&#x3E;branding&#x3C;/em&#x3E; himself as a Man of Great Intregrity -- and also like McCain, he will lie and cheat to hold on to that branding. &#x26;nbsp; Lieberman is fundamentally a P.R. whore who can&#x27;t face the idea of NOT being in the spotlight... just like John McCain. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Ladies and gentlemen,&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;We&#x27;ve now been told by all respectable parties that kids are &#x22;off-limits&#x22; in political discussion. &#x26;nbsp; I agree with this, for the most part. &#x26;nbsp;And I want to honor what Barack Obama has asked of his supporters.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;But I don&#x27;t think we should let this moment pass without reminding ourselves of what disgusting, lying hypocrites we&#x27;re dealing with in the Republican party.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Sarah Palin is LYING about the Bridge to Nowhere.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/1/581913/-Sarah-Palin-is-LYING-about-the-Bridge-to-Nowhere</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;(I have seen this mentioned elsewhere, but it doesn&#x27;t seem to have made it to the front page or the Rec list.)&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;One of the big Republican talking points we keep hearing about John McCain&#x27;s VP pick is that she&#x27;s some kind of reformer who took on the Cheney-Bush contingent in her own party... unlike McCain himself, who tried to get himself photographed hugging George W. Bush as often as possible back when Bush had OK poll numbers.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Palin -- and the Beltway Republican geniuses desperately trying to spin her these days --keep citing the fact that Palin &#x3C;em&#x3E;allegedly&#x3C;/em&#x3E; turned down the Federal government when the big bad Beltway Republican meanies wanted to give Alaska its infamous, Ted Stevens-requested &#x22;Bridge to Nowhere.&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Says Palin these days: &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;&#x22;I told Congress, thanks but no thanks on that bridge to nowhere&#x22;&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;Ladies and gentlemen, this is a flat-out LIE. &#x26;nbsp;Sarah Palin is lying through her teeth about the &#x22;Bridge to Nowhere.&#x22;&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Dear ladies and gentlemen of the traditional media:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I now expect you -- no, REQUIRE you -- to run 24/7 stories about Republicans being in severe, angry disarray going into their convention next week. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Why? &#x26;nbsp; Because John McCain&#x27;s jilted Vice-Presidential candidates are extremely pissed at being used for cover over the last few weeks:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Hillary delivered. &#x26;#160;The phony drama MUST stop now.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/26/576046/-Hillary-delivered-160-The-phony-drama-MUST-stop-now</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Ladies and gentlemen, I was among the many of us who criticized Hillary during the primaries. &#x26;nbsp; (FYI, I also criticized Obama, Edwards, and just about everyone else....)&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;And the traditional media has done its best to pump up the silly drama about the 60-count &#x27;em-60 &#x22;PUMAs&#x22; who are holding out for Hillary&#x3C;em&#x3E; even though she hasn&#x27;t asked them to do so&#x3C;/em&#x3E;.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;But it&#x27;s over. &#x26;nbsp; &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Hillary knocked it out of the damned park tonight. &#x3C;/strong&#x3E; &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;She supported Barack Obama as strongly as anyone could have expected, and more. &#x26;nbsp;She was fiery, &#x26;nbsp;smart, funny, passionate, and pulled no punches in taking it to the Republicans in general, and John McCain specifically. &#x26;nbsp;(Oh John, that must have hurt...)&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Another one of John McCain&#x27;s spokeswhiners came out yesterday to remind us for the 7 millionth time that John McCain was a POW a bunch of decades ago. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;In response to the absolute shellacking that their man got about his laughable response to the &#x22;how many homes do you own?&#x22; question, &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Team McCain did what they do best: &#x26;nbsp;they threw a big ol&#x27; pissy-pants tantrum.&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>OK, McCain: &#x26;#160;time to bring your KEATING FIVE scandal back.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/21/571852/-OK-McCain-160-time-to-bring-your-KEATING-FIVE-scandal-back</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Confronted with his own ridiculous statement about not knowing how many houses he owns, John McCain resorted today to what every pampered elitist &#x26;nbsp;Republican does when faced with his own Washington, D.C. &#x26;nbsp;arrogance: &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;he whined a lot&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;, and tried to blame his opponent.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Republicans never take personal responsibility, after all. &#x26;nbsp;Not McCain&#x27;s hero, George W. Bush, and certainly not McCain himself.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;As I said in comments elsewhere about &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;em&#x3E;Duh-I-Forget-How-Many-Houses-I-Own-Gate&#x3C;/em&#x3E;, the Obama ad puts McCain in a real spot. &#x26;nbsp;Either:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;1) &#x26;nbsp;He&#x27;s too goddamned old, forgetful and / or stupid to be President.&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;OR&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;2) &#x26;nbsp;He&#x27;s an pampered, out-of-touch elitist ass who&#x27;s lying in order to avoid looking like an pampered, out-of-touch elitist ass.&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;But it has to be &#x3C;em&#x3E;at least &#x3C;/em&#x3E;one of the above. &#x26;nbsp;Perhaps some combination.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/20/570921/-Jerome-Corsi-is-a-con-man-who-stole-investors-money</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Just when you thought the racist, anti-Catholic serial liar who authored the latest Obama hit piece couldn&#x27;t go any lower, he manages to show yet another immoral side of himself.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Jerome Corsi&#x27;s vile pack of lies has already been widely debunked, and if the traditional media didn&#x27;t keep putting him in front of TV cameras he&#x27;d be a marginal white supremacist figure at best. &#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;The &#x22;facts&#x22; of his smear job have been taken apart efficiently by others, so I won&#x27;t repeat that here.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;But did you know that in addition to all his other sterling qualities, Jerome Corsi is also a con man who stole money from investors? &#x26;nbsp; &#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Some people just don&#x27;t know their place. &#x26;nbsp; And there&#x27;s a word for such people: &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;uppity&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Yes, you can say &#x22;presumptuous&#x22; if you want, but I find that word kind of weak. &#x26;nbsp; Doesn&#x27;t pack the punch nedded. &#x26;nbsp; See, I&#x27;m an old-fashioned straight talker from way back, son, and I call &#x27;em like I see &#x27;em.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;And what I see is Republican White House-wannabe &#x26;nbsp;John McCain getting &#x3C;em&#x3E;awfully &#x3C;strong&#x3E;uppity&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/em&#x3E; for someone who has not been elected by the people of the U.S.A.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Ah, John McCain. &#x26;nbsp;The maverick. &#x26;nbsp; ...Excuse me, the Maverick, capital &#x22;M.&#x22; &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;He really wanted this to be a clean election. &#x26;nbsp;He really, really wanted this to be a campaign about the issues facing America. &#x26;nbsp;He really, really, &#x3C;em&#x3E;really&#x3C;/em&#x3E; wanted it to be respectful and substantive, all the way up through November.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Lord knows he tried! &#x26;nbsp; But then Barack Obama FORCED him to start throwing buckets of slop and slime. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Poor John McCain had no choice, &#x3C;em&#x3E;at all&#x3C;/em&#x3E;. &#x26;nbsp;Obama FORCED John McCain to act like Karl Rove. &#x26;nbsp; How?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;John McCain himself &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/06/AR2008080602510.html&#x22;&#x3E;explains below&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, in a talk with David &#x22;I-Like-Karl-Rove-Because-I&#x27;ve-Eaten-Quail-At-His-Table&#x22; Broder.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Listen up, you shameless, lying fools in the news media...</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/4/562670/-Listen-up-you-shameless-lying-fools-in-the-news-media</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Here&#x27;s what Barack Obama actually said. &#x26;nbsp; This is the statement he made that got John McCain huffing and puffing about Obama playing the so-called &#x22;race card:&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x22;So nobody really thinks that Bush or McCain have a real answer for the challenges we face, so what they&#x27;re going to try to do is make you scared of me. You know, he&#x27;s not patriotic enough. He&#x27;s got a funny name. &#x3C;strong&#x3E;You know, he doesn&#x27;t look like all those other Presidents on those dollar bills, you know. &#x3C;/strong&#x3E;He&#x27;s risky. That&#x27;s essentially the argument they&#x27;re making.&#x22;
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;It&#x27;s particularly the statement in bold above that got McCain and his (unusually immature) 13-year old campaign Rick Davis, the genius behind the Paris Hilton and Moses ads, to complain bitterly:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x22;Barack Obama has played the race card, and he played it from the bottom of the deck. It&#x27;s divisive, negative, shameful and wrong.&#x22;
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;You -- you in the traditional media -- you dishonest, shallow, shameless goddamned fools ran with that story, and made the question: &#x3C;strong&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E; is Barack Obama playing the (gasp!!!) RACE CARD!!??&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Ross Perot on John McCain. (Hint: he loathes him.)</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/7/31/560468/-Ross-Perot-on-John-McCain-Hint-he-loathes-him</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I&#x27;ve always thought that Ross Perot was more than a little bit out of his mind, but... with the help of his beaucoup bucks, he did make an amazing showing for President in 1992. &#x26;nbsp; Perot got nearly 19% of the popular vote, and that&#x27;s quite a placement.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;There&#x27;s no doubt that for better or worse, Perot captured the imagination of millions of Americans. &#x26;nbsp;He was right about NAFTA, by the way -- his famous phrase about the &#x22;giant sucking sound&#x22; of jobs leaving America turned out to be dead right. &#x26;nbsp;His pro-NAFTA opponent? &#x26;nbsp; Al Gore.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>McCain promises to keep lying, like his buddy Karl Rove.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/7/30/559401/-McCain-promises-to-keep-lying-like-his-buddy-Karl-Rove</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;This is from Markos&#x27; front page story right now &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/7/30/114013/032/4/559348&#x22;&#x3E;&#x22;McCain camp admits ad was false:&#x22;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;McCain&#x27;s advisers said they do not intend to back down from the charge, believing it an effective way to create a &#x22;narrative&#x22; about what they say is Obama&#x27;s indifference toward the military.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;So... even though the very substance of what the McCain people asserted has been proven false, and even though they have admitted that... &#x26;nbsp; they will continue to try making the &#x22;narrative&#x22; stick.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Let&#x27;s unpack this, shall we?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;American politics has proven that many people can find some kind of redemption. &#x26;nbsp;I&#x27;ve not been a fan of Joe Klein over the years -- especially the past decade -- but lately he&#x27;s been sounding more like someone with real, honest-to-God integrity and passion.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Of course, sometimes pundits break in one direction for a tiny bit, get freaked out, and come roaring back to their former comfy Beltway &#x22;wisdom&#x22; all the stronger. &#x26;nbsp;Joe Klein may yet do that.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Why is McCain a delicate flower who needs constant a*skissing?</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/7/1/545056/-Why-is-McCain-a-delicate-flower-who-needs-constant-a-skissing</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I&#x27;ll be blunt, here.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;Just how much ass-kissing does John McCain think he is owed?&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Barack Obama has constantly, consistently and repeatedly said he honors John McCain military service, and what he endured as a prisoner of war. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;A quick Google search confirms that Obama has stated just that on numerous occasions. &#x26;nbsp;Very unequivocally.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;And now that the Republicans are in their phoney pearl-clutching gear again, lying about what General Wesley Clark said and Obama&#x27;s part it in (none), we once again see John McCain and his surrogates whining about how John McCain has been disrespected.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;God in heaven, is there any man in America who has been given MORE respect and deference for his military service than John McCain?&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;(more)&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>I&#x27;ve been totally in agreement and support of President Bush.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/6/12/534683/-I-ve-been-totally-in-agreement-and-support-of-President-Bush</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;...Thus spake John McCain, three years ago, on NBC&#x27;s Sunday morning political show, MEET THE TIM RUSSERT. &#x26;nbsp; Yeah, it&#x27;s not a very good sentence, grammar-wise, but... the idea is clear.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;And more to the point: &#x3C;strong&#x3E; it is exactly the opposite of what John McCain is saying these days&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;. &#x26;nbsp; This makes political sense, since George W. Bush is as popular as scabies right now. &#x26;nbsp;And McCain is desperately, &#x3C;em&#x3E;shamelessly&#x3C;/em&#x3E; running like hell away from Dubya, trying to reclaim his now-trashed &#x22;maverick&#x22; branding -- which was always more P.R. than reality, anyway.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;(more after the jump...)&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Senator Obama: please push for single-payer health care.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/6/11/533865/-Senator-Obama-please-push-for-single-payer-health-care</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I love Barack Obama. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;He&#x27;s a candidate I&#x27;m proud to work for, and support in every way I can. &#x26;nbsp; The man seems ready, willing, and able to lead us from the nightmare of the Bush years, into a better future for this country we love.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Supreme Court justice Oliver Wendell Holmes once said of FDR that he possessed &#x22;a second-rate intellect, but a first-rate temperament.&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Whatever you think of that assessment, and the slightly arcane language...&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I think in Barack Obama we have a first-rate intellect AND a first-rate temperament. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;It&#x27;s for this reason that I think he&#x27;s up to the task of bringing us true universal healthcare, &#x3C;em&#x3E;if&#x3C;/em&#x3E; he&#x27;s willing to push hard for it.&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;(&#x3C;em&#x3E;more)&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>RESOLVED: Joe Lieberman should be kicked out of the Democratic caucus. (Please vote)</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/6/10/533317/-RESOLVED-Joe-Lieberman-should-be-kicked-out-of-the-Democratic-caucus-Please-vote</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;Connecticut-for-Lieberman&#x3C;/em&#x3E; party member Joe Lieberman has once again slimed the Democratic candidate for President, Barack Obama.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Lieberman, who has thrown his full support behind George W. Bush&#x27;s buddy John McCain, had yet another temper tantrum at a formerly-fellow Democrat today. &#x26;nbsp; Granted, Lieberman has had a similar hissy fit almost weekly for years now... but lately &#x3C;strong&#x3E;he&#x27;s actively working against our candidate for President.&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Kudos to Laura Bush.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/6/9/532785/-Kudos-to-Laura-Bush</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;There&#x27;s a whole hell of a lot I don&#x27;t agree on with Laura Bush, and I think her husband is a criminal who should be impeached and / or prosecuted.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;But credit where credit is due. &#x26;nbsp; She &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://blogs.reuters.com/trail08/2008/06/09/laura-bush-defends-michelle-obama/&#x22;&#x3E;defended Michelle Obama today:&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Michelle Obama has a new defender from those who say she isn&#x26;#8217;t patriotic enough &#x26;#8212; First Lady Laura Bush. &#x3C;strong&#x3E;In an interview with ABC News, Bush said that Obama&#x26;#8217;s February remark that she was proud of the United States &#x26;#8220;for the first time in my adult life&#x26;#8221; was misconstrued.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x26;#8220;I think she probably meant &#x26;#8216;I&#x26;#8217;m more proud.&#x26;#8217; That&#x26;#8217;s what she really meant,&#x26;#8221; Bush said from Afghanistan.&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x26;#8220;You have to be realy careful in what you say because everything you say is looked at and in many cases misconstrued,&#x26;#8221; she said.

<title>A quick reminder of McCain&#x27;s dishonesty re: IRAQ.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/6/6/531476/-A-quick-reminder-of-McCain-s-dishonesty-re-IRAQ</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;John McCain has decided to put himself forward as the guy who has REALLY been around the block -- the steady old hand that we need, as opposed to the big-talking rube he&#x27;s running against.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;And nowhere has McCain touted his wisdom and experience more than on matters of war and peace. &#x26;nbsp;According to McCain, it&#x27;s downright dangerous to have someone as green as Barack Obama in charge of our military, and our very security. &#x26;nbsp; We need John McCain, steady old hand, who knows what&#x27;s what when it comes to the most important decisions we&#x27;ll face. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;...And by God, that John McCain is a straight talker, too! &#x26;nbsp; Not only will he bring his enormous, unparalleled experience to bear... the man will tell us the damned truth, whether it makes him popular or not! &#x26;nbsp; This is ESPECIALLY true when it comes to grave matters of war, peace, security, and the lives of our soldiers. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Unlike most politicians, the maverick known as John McCain would NEVER pander and say one thing in matters of war and peace, only to contradict himself when it seems convenient and politically --&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Wait. &#x26;nbsp;OOPS.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>So we really can&#x27;t impeach? &#x26;#160;What, then?</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/6/5/530805/-So-we-really-can-t-impeach-160-What-then</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Ladies and gentlemen,&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;As you probably know, Sen. Jay Rockefeller&#x27;s &#x22;Phase II&#x22; report on the pre-war Iraq intelligence was finally released today... &#x3C;strong&#x3E;four full years&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; after the first phase of the report.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;It&#x27;s been in the news, and it&#x27;s been diaried here on this site. &#x26;nbsp;DKos writer &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Bejammin075&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; did &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/6/5/132739/7703&#x22;&#x3E;a good rundown here&#x3C;/a&#x3E; today.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I&#x27;ve been cogitating on this story all day, feeling queasy. &#x26;nbsp;Even as someone who was dead set against the invasion and occupation of Iraq, and someone who has believed for years, with most of you here, that the invasion was based on a pack of lies -- even as someone highly invested in seeing the truth about Iraq come out, I have to confess that my response to the &#x22;Phase II&#x22; report was something of a yawn. &#x26;nbsp;&#x22;Old news.&#x22; &#x26;nbsp;&#x22;Tell me something I don&#x27;t know, OK?&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;This is wrong, wrong, all wrong. &#x26;nbsp; I&#x27;m wrong. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;(more below)&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>There are as*holes in every political campaign.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/6/3/527754/-There-are-as-holes-in-every-political-campaign</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;As we come to the end of the Democratic primaries tonight, some very sore feelings linger in both the Clinton and Obama camps. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Most of us here know both candidate&#x27;s supporters&#x27; list of grievances against the other, so I won&#x27;t review them here. &#x26;nbsp; I just want to make one simple point, and hope it&#x27;s worth an entire diary.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;And that is exactly what my title says, asterisk notwithstanding: &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;there are assholes in every political campaign.&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Please spare me the lectures about &#x22;unity.&#x22;</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/6/1/527102/-Please-spare-me-the-lectures-about-unity</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;A united Democratic party, ready to take on McCain? &#x26;nbsp;I&#x27;m all for it. &#x26;nbsp; Let&#x27;s rally around the nominee, and take on the Republicans. &#x26;nbsp;Can&#x27;t wait.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;But as of this night of Sunday June 2nd, there is one person standing in the way of that united Democratic party: &#x26;nbsp;the good senator from New York. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Here she is, &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/06/clinton-says-no.html&#x22;&#x3E;speaking this very night:&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Clinton&#x26;#8217;s main argument is that she is leading in the popular vote, saying this evening, &#x26;#8220;More people across the country have voted for our campaign. &#x3C;strong&#x3E;More people have voted for us than for any candidate in the history of presidential politics. We are winning the popular vote. Now there can be no doubt. The people have spoken, you have chosen your candidate&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;.&#x26;#8221;
