<title>Bob Schieffer is today&#x27;s pig.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/11/594710/-Bob-Schieffer-is-today-s-pig</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;This morning on Morning Joe, Bob Schieffer provided another example of what&#x27;s wrong with the media. As he did for the entire rest of his show, Joe Scarborough was bashing Obama, saying what a wimp Obama was as a candidate, and he asked Schieffer what Schieffer thought of the &#x22;lipstick on a pig&#x22; remark. Schieffer called it a mistake and then went on to say that &#x3C;strong&#x3E;looked at in a light most favorably to Obama,&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; Obama was talking about McCain&#x27;s policies, not Palin herself (this is not an exact quote but a pretty accurate paraphrase, I believe). I guess I should be used to it by now, but my jaw hit the floor. &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Looked at in a light most favorably to Obama?&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; He &#x3C;strong&#x3E;was&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; talking about McCain&#x27;s policies; a review of the video shows it without doubt. When a journalist as prominent as Bob Schieffer cannot separate fact from fiction, truth from lies, it truly is a dark day for American journalism.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;What would Murrow, Cronkite and Sevareid say?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I&#x27;ll add that this comes after Schieffer conducted the softest, most enabling interview of McCain on Face the Nation this past weekend.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Sarah Palin&#x27;s Blog!!!</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/29/579028/-Sarah-Palin-s-Blog</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;No, I don&#x27;t think she has one. But doesn&#x27;t her nomination cry out for something like &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://harrietmiers.blogspot.com/&#x22;&#x3E;Harriet Miers&#x27;s Blog&#x3C;/a&#x3E;. Remember, the pink-tinted blog from 2005 that had Harriet Miers talking like a teen-aged girl? (I think I just insulted teenagers.)&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I mean, like, OMG Palin&#x27;s biography would be perfect for it. Miss Wasilla where she played the flute and also won Miss Congeniality. Runner up in the Miss Alaska contest. Just think about how she could gush about her plane ride all the way to Minnesota and actually meeting John McCain, about how she couldn&#x27;t understand why Cindy was being mean to her.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;It really writes itself.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;XOXOX&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>More Morning Joe: McCain Spokesperson Lies, Joe Follows Along</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/8/564547/-More-Morning-Joe-McCain-Spokesperson-Lies-Joe-Follows-Along</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;More of the worst journalism possible from Morning Joe this morning. McCain spokesperson Nicolle Wallace came onto the show and said that Obama was receiving more from the oil industry than McCain. She cited but did not quote a report on the subject from the Center for Responsive Politics. This sounded incorrect to me since it had been widely reported that McCain had received several times as much money from the oil industry as Obama. Immediately after her appearance, Scarborough read an email from the Republican National Committee quoting the Center for Responsive Politics report that through June 30th Obama had received $7,000 more from Exxon $42,100 to $35,166) and Chevron ($35,157 to $28,500) than McCain. The email was read uncritically and went unchallenged.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Well, it took me about two minutes to find the Center for Responsive Politics report and see how misleading this talking point was. It&#x27;s right there in the article, which is quoted below.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Brain Candy: Law Profs Praise Professor Obama</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/7/30/559549/-Brain-Candy-Law-Profs-Praise-Professor-Obama</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;We all seem to appreciate the eye candy we get from Al Rodgers and other diarists. &#x26;nbsp;I thought I would post some &#x22;brain candy&#x22; from The New York Times&#x27; Caucus Blog about Barack Obama&#x27;s time teaching law at the University of Chicago.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;There&#x27;s a Page One article in today&#x27;s Times entitled &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/30/us/politics/30law.html?_r=1&#x26;amp;oref=login&#x22;&#x3E;Teaching Law, Testing Ideas, Obama Stood Apart&#x3C;/a&#x3E;. &#x26;nbsp;It&#x27;s been the subject of several diaries here at DailyKos including one that is fairly negative entitled &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/7/29/214138/480/246/559106&#x22;&#x3E;New York Times Distorts Obama&#x27;s U of Chicago&#x27;s Years&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, and another that is more positive entitled &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/7/29/214138/480/246/559106&#x22;&#x3E;Professor Obama&#x3C;/a&#x3E;. My view of the article was pretty positive but what&#x27;s absolutely great are comments from other law professors on the Times&#x27; &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/07/30/inside-professor-obamas-classroom/#more-5666&#x22;&#x3E;Caucus Blog&#x3C;/a&#x3E; praising Obama&#x27;s professorial skills. &#x26;nbsp;More down below.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Maria Bartiromo, CNBC Superstar, Wrong on Obamanomics</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/7/29/558682/-Maria-Bartiromo-CNBC-Superstar-Wrong-on-Obamanomics</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Another example of incompetent media, this time featuring CNBC&#x27;s lead reporter Maria Bartiromo. &#x26;nbsp;Her ignorance or deliberate distortion of Obama&#x27;s economic policies was there for all to see in her interview of Lawrence Summers after Obama&#x27;s economic conference yesterday afternoon.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;After several minutes of pleasantries with Summers, Bartiromo launched into her big question: Obama on Taxes. In her question, Bartiromo stressed that Obama was going to raise capital gains rates from 15 to 24 or 25% and raise the top marginal income tax rate as well. &#x26;nbsp;Her exact quote: &#x26;nbsp;&#x22;We know he&#x27;s taking taxes up. Why raise taxes in such a slow economy? Won&#x27;t that stretch people further?&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;She seemingly knew nothing of Obama&#x27;s middle class tax cut that would lower taxes on all but the top several percent. &#x26;nbsp;There was no understanding that Obama would delay tax increases until the economy was back on its feet.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Meanwhile, John McCain is at the sausage haus.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/7/24/556315/-Meanwhile-John-McCain-is-at-the-sausage-haus</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;This is just too funny. &#x26;nbsp;While Obama addresses 100,000 in Berlin, John McCain is at Schmidt&#x27;s Restaurant and Sausage Haus in German Village, Ohio. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/24/mccain-plays-catch-up-att_n_114761.html&#x22;&#x3E;Sam Stein&#x3C;/a&#x3E; at The Huffington Post has a priceless visual of the restaurant and its menu.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Of course, with that food and that entertainment, who can blame McCain? &#x26;nbsp;On the other hand, Cindy better watch out for that waitress. &#x26;nbsp;John has a track record, you know.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Hat tip to rebeleyeball.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Must Read: Poblano has Obama&#x27;s and Clinton&#x27;s Oregon bios up at fivethirtyeight.com</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/5/14/515492/-Must-Read-Poblano-has-Obama-s-and-Clinton-s-Oregon-bios-up-at-fivethirtyeight-com</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Poblano has a great post this morning up at his site, &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/&#x22;&#x3E;fivethirtyeight.com&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, entitled &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/05/hillarys-oregon-problem.html&#x22;&#x3E;Hillary&#x27;s Oregon Problem&#x3C;/a&#x3E;. His main point is that because Oregon votes by mail, and because so many ballots have already been sent in, any supposedly game-changing event in her favor between now and Election Day won&#x27;t matter much because the election is already &#x22;literally in the (mail)bag.&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;But the best part of the post is that Poblano shows and compares the statements that Clinton and Obama made in the Oregon Voter&#x27;s Pamphlet in support of their respective candidacies. &#x26;nbsp;It&#x27;s a great comparison and Poblano&#x27;s comment on them is just perfect. &#x26;nbsp;Go take a look, it&#x27;s worth it.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;and for the next hour or so. I&#x27;ve seen her in this type of forum and she&#x27;s great. Very dynamic. &#x26;nbsp;The Indiana Jefferson-Jackson Dinner will be on C-Span at 9:30 Eastern.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;She started out on public education and is now describing why Obama&#x27;s right for the job.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Quick diary for those who are interested.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Obama now more popular than Clinton in NJ</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/4/30/506380/-Obama-now-more-popular-than-Clinton-in-NJ</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;According to &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.politickernj.com/wallye/19174/state-democats-now-prefer-obama-both-democrats-lead-mccain-nj&#x22;&#x3E;PolitickerNJ.com&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, a new Monmouth University/Gannett poll shows that Barack Obama is now more popular among Democrats and independents in New Jersey. The poll gives Obama a 58%-27% favorable unfavorable rating while Clinton has a 46%-43% rating. Also according to PolitickerNJ.com, the poll shows that by a 45%-38% margin, &#x22;more New Jersey and Democrat-leaning independents&#x22; (however that&#x27;s defined) would rather see Obama win the nomination.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Against McCain, Obama wins 56%-32% and Clinton wins 52%-38%.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;None of this comes as any surprise to me but it&#x27;s nice to have a poll to cite.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Hillary&#x27;s Tax Returns &#x26; Hidden Offshore Income</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/4/3/489764/-Hillary-s-Tax-Returns-Hidden-Offshore-Income</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0408/Tax_returns_coming.html&#x22;&#x3E;Ben Smith of the Politico&#x3C;/a&#x3E; quotes Howard Wolfson as saying that Hillary&#x27;s tax returns will be out in a day or two. &#x26;nbsp;When they&#x27;re released, just about everyone will look at the returns as an accurate disclosure of the Clintons&#x27; income. But the Clintons&#x27; tax returns will only show income that&#x27;s taxable in the United States. &#x26;nbsp;If the Clintons earned income outside of the United States, it&#x27;s possible that they&#x27;ve kept some or all of that income offshore. If so, that income need not appear on their tax returns.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Can I Have An Amen For CNN (Seriously)</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/3/20/481098/-Can-I-Have-An-Amen-For-CNN-Seriously</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I&#x27;ve been down on CNN for a while but David Gergen, Carl Bernstein and Roland Martin deserve high praise for refusing to buy into talk radio&#x27;s shit storm over Obama&#x27;s comments about his grandmother being &#x22;a typical white woman&#x22; on Anderson Cooper 360 a few minutes ago. I can only paraphrase but Gergen again supported Obama saying that Obama had spoken the truth about race and stereotypes and that the media should not be trying to pick apart every word or phrase to play gotcha. &#x26;nbsp;Bernstein was right with him and then Martin said explicitly that CNN should not be doing what talk radio does. &#x26;nbsp;They all called for a candid, honest and adult conversation of race and stereotypes and for that they deserve credit.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I believe this segment will be shown again in the 11:00 p.m. EDT hour and it&#x27;s well worth watching.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Sorry for the short diary but I wanted to get this out there.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Just What Obama Warned Against</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/3/18/479619/-Just-What-Obama-Warned-Against</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;So I&#x27;ve spent several hours today listening to the media&#x27;s commentary on Obama&#x27;s speech. &#x26;nbsp;CNN, MSNBC, even right wing radio to see how they would respond. &#x26;nbsp;I&#x27;ve heard liberals and conservatives, Obama supporters and Clinton supporters, pastors and laypersons, whites and blacks. &#x26;nbsp;Not one of them heard what Obama was saying.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;What were they talking about? &#x26;nbsp;Race, mostly, a little bit about religion, a good amount about the horse race and the effect of Obama&#x27;s speech on the presidential campaign. &#x26;nbsp;It&#x27;s exactly what Obama was warning against.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
