You Can Help David Cay Johnston Help Us

David Cay Johnston is starting a news site called DCReport, which is meant to do more than write about tweets. He plans to have a staff of writers, lawyers and significant others to write about the administration and congress in regard to what they do and to write about it before they do it. They will then include things we can do to keep our America our America.

He responded in an e-mail to me:

Please tell others about this project and urge them to donate as I am trying to build a broad base of small donors to persuade some big pockets donors who are interested, but have not yet written the larger checks needed to do the task at hand.

   Look at DCReport.org

You can also send a donation to

Follow The Money: Panama Papers Motherload of Ties Between Trump and Russian Mobster Oligarchs

This lengthy but enlightening article with a forward by David Cay Johnston and written by James Henry, shows just how important the Panama Papers were, if people had wanted to delve into the links between Russian oligarchs and Trump. Too bad people were all focused on “trade deals” that weren’t there to haunt us. All of this information should have been front and center. These people have been Trump’s business cohorts for decades. Some of them are apparent family friends. The kids hang out with them, too. It’s a long article and the source allows one free article, so take your time and read it. If only investigative journalists had been doing what James Henry has done and not gone for that shiny object...e-mails. There should be a massive Church Commission to investigate these relationships. Crimes and misdemeanors look like shiny objects to me.

www.the-american-interest.com/…

Who has the cajones to investigate and prosecute?

Mother Jones Found PEOTUS Trail of Debt

We never got the taxes, but now Mother Jones has identified the debt PEOTUS owes various banks and the numbers are Uuuuge. Not counted in this story is the nearly $1 billion in various deals with China. No wonder he wants to provoke a war with them. If he could use our military to threaten China, maybe he could get them to cancel his debt. Maybe he wants an neo-nazi to win in Germany via dirty tricks by Russia, to cancel his debt. This man is in debt way beyond his eyeballs. This doesn’t even take into account all the Russian money ties he’s got that lead a path to Putin.

www.motherjones.com/...

President Elect's Name Creates Conflict of Interest

What to call our president-elect, seriously, we can’t use his name. It’s trademarked. To use his name with the name reserved for the highest office in America automatically advertises his brand with his government job. From now on, I will call him P-E. I will refer to the office of president at POTUS. I will not use his name. It’s trademarked. He can sue. Besides, he’s gotten enough free advertising and billions of dollars in free media.

www.theguardian.com/…

He’s also found a way to avoid paying taxes for his various brands by being incorporated in Deleware, one of the US tax havens.

Trump "Yada Yada" Foreign Policy

Julia Louis Dreyfus did a wonderful bit on SNL when she asked the character in a debate played by Larry David how he’d get something done. The response was a typical Trump type of answer like his usual, “It will be beautiful, trust me.” He never said how he’d do it. At that point Julia Louis Dreyfus called him on giving a non-answer saying, “You yada yada yada’d over the best parts!” That in a nutshell is Trump’s foreign policy plans. He says he’ll make America great by “Putting Americans and America first.” He’ll get Russia and China in a room to show them his strength. He’ll get all the other NATO members to pay for NATO, etc… He never says how he’d do anything. It’s always “Trust me. It will be beautiful.” “I’m a winner.” Everybody else is a “loser.” He never says how or that he’s even given how much thought. He’s “yada yada yada’s over the best parts,” when it comes to foreign policy or any other policy. When it comes to interviewing this man for the top job in our government, which includes CIC, can’t imagine anybody ticking the box for him that says, “You’re hired.”

It’s been years since I’ve written a diary. David Cay Johnston has been writing about tax havens and tax evasion for decades. He’s written about the Panama Papers, which he says is basically a tale of “money porn” that puts names to the people hiding money around the world and one law firm who helps them do it. He calls them “one room” in what would otherwise be “a mansion” of this type of activity. He says the problem is congress and parliament. He doesn’t mention trade agreements.

Crashing the Gates of Justice (tin foil hat edition)

It doesn't take a crystal ball for this picture to become any clearer. In the White House (signing statements by Bush) and both chambers of Congress (Frist and Hastert as leaders) the rule of law seems to be dead. (See the SCOTUS ruling on Hamden v Rumsfeld and John Dean's latest FindLaw piece about what Graham and Kyl were up to with the WH to get that one dismissed and got caught in the act) Now a court is going to hear arguments about why the government (Justice Dept. same one who used the Graham Kyl fraud in the Hamdan case) should be dismissed. This is regarding the Deficit Reduction Act that Bush signed into law knowing the congress didn't vote for the same version as the senate. (Cheney was a tie breaker in the senate).

Revolutionary War: British NY was first GITMO

The New York Times had an excellent op-ed, which I blogged about at the Clark Community Network. http://www.securingamerica.com/...

(This takes you to my blog and link to the article.) It seems that more Patriots
died in British NY prisons than during battle. The conditions were beyond horrible. Many of these men were locked away on prison ships where they died. This is something we just don't learn about from our school history books. After the war, of course King George III was not held accountable for "war crimes" as he was the king of the British Empire. After this war, nations did start to establish rules on treatment of POWs and who counts as a POW. England called our Patriots, "insurgents" or "enemy combatants" not deserving of POW status. These are my words more or less.

Yesterday I wrote a comment about how well I think the 50 state strategy is working in Kansas. I got a lot of positive feedback for my comment. Now, I am a believer that we can do two things at once. We can have a 50 state strategy and also give the money to the DCCC that they will need to help all these great congressional candidates win in November. If 600,000 people send the DCCC $100 (you know the spiel) they will have the $60 million they need to do the great work they do.

It was so exciting to see a blogger, one of us featured in a very long article in the WAPO. If anyone has a right to be angry with the Bush administration for repeating the mistakes of the Nixon administration, it's MSOC. How many of us lost our fathers to "an unfortunate incident" such as the war in Vietnam? She held her own on FOX too!

"The Common Good and The Commonwealth"

It's time for us to become a unified Democratic party with one very central message. Last summer at a grassroots meetup in Little Rock, Arkansas of the National Clark Community, George Lakoff told us that our frame for our party is "the common good." He also talked about the early states being called a commonwealth in that everyone was working together and using their resources to work for the common good of their state. Then, that expanded to include the common good of the entire nation through a system of taxation that was to benefit everyone. The words made absolute sense to me. Everything that matters to us as a party and a nation fits into the "common good."

Wes Clark today on Cavuto (FOX) 3:00 Central Time

Wes Clark has been speaking out about Iran being the real threat in the middle east and not Iraq since at least 2002. People are finally taking notice and listening to him. He will be on Cavuto today talking about Iran. It's always worth tuning in to hear what he has to say if you can. If not, usually someone posts the video on CCN. There is a thread up now that will include discussion about what he has to say today.

New Wes Clark Op-Ed on Iraq

General Clark has written an Op-Ed now up at the New York Times Website. He wrote it from Qatar, where he's attended a conference with others from the middle east. From his most recent contacts he has written a very interesting position on what we now need to do in Iraq. I hope General Pace reads it and pays very close attention. Rummy and Cheney won't even read it, I suspect. If everyone in the Senate and Congress looks it over, it will give them food for thought along with the rest of us. Hint... it's about Iran.

Alito, Shmalito (with poll)

It seems to me that we need to keep our focus on Treasongate. As Krugman has said very well, "illegal or not, outing a CIA operative is unpatriotic." (paraphrasing) We know she was outed, as well as her husband having told us the truth about the reasons for going to war in Iraq. Nominating Alito is from the Rove playbook to appease the radical religious right and rally them around Dubya. Meanwhile, activity was happening with some of the same Treasongate players in the Vice's office today. Why don't we focus on our own important issues that should be on the front page of every paper in the country.

Something people could do

I read a really heart wrenching story on Drudge about the people going to the AstroDome not being able to take their pets. One of the Clarkies living in Baton Rouge posted that the shelter there has lots of these pets and they are looking for foster homes for them until they can be reunited with their owners. Perhaps contacting the Humane Society where you live could get you in touch with that shelter if you live within 300 miles of the area to house a pet. If someone lives in Houston, I hope they will take in a dog named Snowball for the little boy who went to the AstroDome and "cried until he vomited" when they took his dog. At least he could visit him until they get a new place. I don't have any phone numbers, but a Kossack living closer than I do (Kansas) could perhaps research this and let people know what they can do to house pets or people with pets.

I can't tell you how much I wish we'd run the election in Ohio. Those of us at the Clark Community Network pulled together like the rest of the netroots with donations, calling, boots on the ground and Wes Clark's endorsement for Hackett. Heck the DCCC did a robocall of Wes for Hackett in Ohio. Read why I support the DCCC as do many many of us who support Wes Clark on the flip.

Wes Clark, "Get some starch!"

Those of us who support Wes Clark and asked him to run for president in 04 appreciate his succinct and plain spoken manner. He told a crowd of people in a speech that Democrats need to "get some starch!" We agree and gladly supported Paul Hackett who obviously has a lot of "starch."
We've learned some valuable lessons from the OH-02 race and I hope we can learn more with a win in CA-48's special election on Nov. 8th. In the meantime, for those Kossacks who have come to appreciate Wes Clark as we have, please visit

Joe Wilson on Today

According to Bradblog in an interview today with Joe Wilson, he will be on The Today Show tomorrow. He will be fighting back with guns blazing in a manner of speaking. He has a letter from Bush, Sr. written to him regarding the lead up to the war in Iraq and also something from Scowcroft saying they agreed with much he had to say in another editorial months after his Niger trip. Does anybody besides me wonder if Fitzgerald and his team watch TV and wonder, "is that it? That's their defense?" The public smear of Wilson and his wife are classic Rove. Actually, classic government management, what a shame.

Now all we need is for Fitz to put all the pieces of the puzzle together. I understand that's his area of expertise. Please go to the New York TImes site and read this editorial.

Hold your nose and read Drudge

Drudge has his own story that then seems to come from a Newsweek story about Putin nailing Bush over the firing of the reporters at CBS. Bush apparently was open mouthed at the suggestion and the BushCo line is that Putin doesn't understand that he doesn't have the power to fire anyone in the American free press, but I suspect Vladimir looked into his soul and saw the truth. Strike a blow for liberty, Putipoot!

Is there a smart plan for giving?

This is my first diary here, so here goes...
We are in an off year, 2005, but I am already deluged with requests for donations to various candidate PACs and party organizations. My question is this, is there a logical way for us to give to benefit the many? I live in Kansas, which is not a densely populated state and a red one to boot, so aren't my dollars needed more in my state for the state Democratic party and candidates running here in 2006? Do people living in blue states with larger populations have a better chance to give to the national organizations in bigger numbers than they need to give their state party? I'm just curious, because it seems like there could be a way to do this so we all get the most bang for our collective bucks in this off year. Ideas?
