<title>The 2016 Primaries and the Future of the Democratic Party</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/2/21/1488922/-The-2016-Primaries-and-the-Future-of-the-Democratic-Party</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;There was a very interesting &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/why-the-democratic-establishment-fears-bernie-sanders/2016/02/19/2323482e-d70c-11e5-be55-2cc3c1e4b76b_story.html&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;opinion piece&#x3C;/a&#x3E; in the Washington Post this morning by Dana Milbank. Milbank describes how the Democratic Party at the local level has shriveled in recent year, partly due to bypass the Democratic Party apparatus in favor of his own group, Organizing for Change. National party funding for local operations has fallen precipitously, with the number of state party officials paid for by the national party falling from 183 to 115. Partly as a result, the the losses for the Democratic party have been staggering over the last decade, including&#xA0;&#x3C;span&#x3E;69&#xA0;House seats, 13 Senate seats, 910 state legislative seats, 30 state legislative chambers and 11&#xA0;governorships.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;These losses in state legislative seats have had dramatic results on the House of Representatives, due to the gerrymandering that has resulted &#x2014;&#xA0;thus giving the GOP a permanent advantages of several percentage points in holding on to the House.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;But, here is the real takeaway. So far, in this election campaign, Hillary Clinton has raised $26,000,000 for the Democratic Party, but Bernie Sanders has raised only $1,000. And he didn&#x2019;t really raise that. Rather, the party put $1,000 in to start a joint account.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Of course, none of this is surprising. Sanders was not a member of the Democratic arty until less than a year ago, when he joined it to run for President. Why would anyone expect he would want to build the party?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Sanders is energizing lots of youth, and that certainly can be a positive for the party. &#xA0;But if the Democratic Party doesn&#x2019;t step up its local organizing and start winning legislative seats, we&#x2019;ll be facing another decade of gerrymandered house seats, not to mention governors and members of Congress that impede social progress. &#xA0;And that will take a lot of funds&#x2014;and I for one am very grateful that the Clinton campaign has made raising funds for the party a priority.&#xA0;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Alabama shooter an academic fraud (with evidence)</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/2/15/837462/-Alabama-shooter-an-academic-fraud-with-evidence</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Anybody out there still think that Amy Bishop, though a murderer, may have been inappropriately turned down for tenure? How would you like to see evidence that she is an academic fraud?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;OK, I realize that this appears to be getting further and further away from politics. &#x26;nbsp;Or, perhaps closer, if it raises more questions about why Amy Bishop was never charged in 1986.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Did Univ. of Alabama suspect murder before? (Updated x 2)</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/2/13/836831/-Did-Univ-of-Alabama-suspect-murder-before-Updated-x-2</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Over the last couple of days, I&#x27;ve read some outrageous accusations about the University of Alabama, Huntsville and its faculty. &#x26;nbsp;For some odd reason, after a deranged faculty member, Amy Bishop, murdered several of her colleagues, many people are automatically assuming that the university was wrong in denying her tenure. &#x26;nbsp;I even saw speculation that her faculty colleagues must have been creationists or were otherwise jealous of her Harvard degree.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I assumed quite the opposite--that murdering one&#x27;s colleagues is prima facie evidence that one is unstable and not qualified for a tenured position at a university. &#x26;nbsp;And now it appears that some interesting information is coming out about Amy Bishop&#x27;s past.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Plan to retrieve bonuses from non-U.S. citizens at AIG</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/3/18/710092/-Plan-to-retrieve-bonuses-from-non-U-S-citizens-at-AIG</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;One of the issues that has been raised in regards to 100% taxing of bonuses paid to AIG employees is that many of them are not U.S. citizens and do not live in the U.S. They thus do not pay U.S. taxes.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I have a very simple suggestion for how to retrieve these bonuses. &#x26;nbsp;Such employees should be instructed that they should return their bonuses immediately, or (a) they will be immediately fired and (b) any visas they or any of their dependents have to the U.S. will be immediately revoked, and (c) neither they nor any of their dependents will ever again be granted visas to the United States.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Sorry for such a short diary. &#x26;nbsp;I just thought this was an important idea to float because I hadn&#x27;t seen any plan yet on how to retrieve bonuses paid out to those who don&#x27;t pay U.S. taxes.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Why Hamas must be defeated</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/1/3/679896/-Why-Hamas-must-be-defeated</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;All those who love peace feel a heavy heart at the current situation in Palestine and Israel. &#x26;nbsp;In particular, Israel&#x27;s most recent decision to send its troops into Gaza will mean much more death and destruction in a territory that has already suffered too much.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Yet, I support that decision and I believe that it is unfortunately necessary for the long-term good of the people of Palestine, Israel, the Mideast, and the world.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>I&#x27;ve been to Gaza....</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/12/27/677786/-I-ve-been-to-Gaza</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I imagine I&#x27;m one of the few people on DailyKos who has been to Gaza. I stopped there in December 1999-January 2000 during a round-trip car trip from Cairo (where I was living and working) to Tel Aviv. And yes, I bet I&#x27;m one of the few people in the U.S., or indeed anywhere, who ever made that car trip. (I can tell you that neither the Egyptian nor Israeli authorities made that a very easy trip.)&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I also lived in the Mideast for more than 3 total years (mostly in Egypt), have visited Jordan, Israel (several times for a total of several months) and the West Bank, and have studied both Arabic and Hebrew (albeit neither at a very proficient level).&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;OK, now that I have your attention, here are my predictions for how this will turn out. (More beneath the fold.)&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Fair Rules and Unfair Rules</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/2/7/452325/-Fair-Rules-and-Unfair-Rules</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;From reading this and other blogs, I get the impression that there are &#x22;fair&#x22; rules that must be followed, because they were agreed to in advance (whether or not they are democratic), and other &#x22;unfair&#x22; rules that must be patently opposed, whether or not they were agreed to in advance (because they are anti-democratic). &#x26;nbsp;Let&#x27;s summarize below the fold.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Hillary or Obama? The deciding issue for me</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/2/1/447584/-Hillary-or-Obama-The-deciding-issue-for-me</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I have been supporting Hillary throughout this campaign, and at times I have sharply criticized Obama out of partisanship. &#x26;nbsp;But the reality is that I find many things attractive about Obama too. &#x26;nbsp;I like his ability to bring out large numbers of new voters and to appeal to independents and moderate Republicans. &#x26;nbsp;I think he could represent a new face of the U.S. in international diplomacy and I like many of his ideas about transparency in government. &#x26;nbsp;There are times when I wonder if I have made the right choice in this election.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Of course I also admire many strengths about Hillary--her long-time commitment to children&#x27;s and women&#x27;s issues, her experience and knowledge in international affairs, her willingness to fight for what&#x27;s right, her policy ideas about education and other issues. &#x26;nbsp;And Hillary is also bringing out huge numbers of new voters, especially working class women. &#x26;nbsp;How to decide?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Well, though I am attracted to Hillary for a wide range of reasons, there is one definitive issue that confirms my support for her. &#x26;nbsp;More beneath the fold.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Florida by the Numbers</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/1/29/445909/-Florida-by-the-Numbers</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;People are debating back and forth about whether Florida &#x22;counts&#x22; in any of a number of ways: whether the delegates will eventually be counted, whether the vote signifies anything about potential support on Super Tuesday and beyond, and whether the vote will impact media coverage of the race.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Well, I don&#x27;t intend in this diary to argue any of those points. &#x26;nbsp;I simply intend to share quantitative data about the state and the vote. &#x26;nbsp;More below the fold.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>LA Times: Obama says he bungled Illinois votes</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/1/23/442140/-LA-Times-Obama-says-he-bungled-Illinois-votes</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;The L.A. Times has an article today about how Barack Obama claims he &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-obamavotes24jan24,0,4956975,full.story?coll=la-home-center&#x22;&#x3E;bungled&#x3C;/a&#x3E; five votes in the Illinois State Senate&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Apparently, on at least five occasions, Obama claims that he had pushed the wrong button and afterwards requested that his true &#x22;intent&#x22; should be recorded. &#x26;nbsp;In such cases, there is a note of the legislator&#x27;s stated intent, but the original vote still stands. &#x26;nbsp;Follow beneath the fold for the details.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Clinton Wins Strip Precincts</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/1/19/439611/-Clinton-Wins-Strip-Precincts</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Clinton won 7 of the 9 at-large worksite precincts on the Las Vegas strip. &#x26;nbsp;Overall the &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.nvdems08.com/countyResults.do?county=Clark&#x22;&#x3E;results&#x3C;/a&#x3E; at these nine precincts were as follows:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Clinton: 54.5%
&#x3C;br /&#x3E;Obama: 45.5%&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;In other words, she won those precincts by a substantially larger margin than she won the state. &#x26;nbsp;What a stunning rejection of the Culinary Union leadership.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>The View from Manchester</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/1/9/433510/-The-View-from-Manchester</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;For many on this site, the 1990s look like part of the problem. &#x26;nbsp;NAFTA, welfare reform, triangulation--the whole nine yards. &#x26;nbsp;The problems didn&#x27;t start in 2001--we have to overturn Washington and those that are part of it.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Apparently, the voters in Manchester, New Hampshire -- the largest city in Northern New England and the base of the region&#x27;s principal working class and union community -- feel differently. &#x26;nbsp;For why that is so, and what that means for this election, follow below the fold.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Even though it&#x27;s happened in the past, a lot of us have nevertheless been surprised at how a victory in one small rural state, where less than 20% of the population votes, can radically transform a presidential race.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>ARG Iowa: C: 34, O: 25, E: 21</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/1/3/429719/-ARG-Iowa-C-34-O-25-E-21</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Well, those of you who have been calling ARG a junk pollster will have your arguments either greatly bolstered or dispoven by day&#x27;s end. &#x26;nbsp;ARG is calling the Iowa race dramatically differently than DMR or Zogby.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Dates of &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://americanresearchgroup.com/pres08/iadem8-717.html&#x22;&#x3E;the poll&#x3C;/a&#x3E; are Dec. 31-Jan 2 (Dec. 26-28 in parentheses)&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Clinton 34 (31)
&#x3C;br /&#x3E;Obama 25 (24)
&#x3C;br /&#x3E;Edwards 21 (24)&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Hillary supporters are sometimes criticized for focusing too much on the polls or the horserace, and not enough on why they support their candidate. &#x26;nbsp;Well, below are four heartfelt reasons I support Hillary.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>How DMR McCain endorsement helps Hillary</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/12/15/422678/-How-DMR-McCain-endorsement-helps-Hillary</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Hillary landed perhaps the most important yet of the campaign today, that of the Des Moines register. &#x26;nbsp;Overlooked in all the excitement (or disappointment for some) is their endorsement in the Republican primary, for John McCain. &#x26;nbsp;That helps Hillary in three important ways -- see more beneath the fold.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Why Hillary Will Win</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/12/14/421596/-Why-Hillary-Will-Win</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;With the race virtually tied in Iowa and New Hampshire, and Obama having some momentum, should he now be favored to win?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Well, not so fast. &#x26;nbsp;Hillary has some huge advantages in this race that allow her multiple paths to victory. Taking all these possible paths into account means that the &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.intrade.com/&#x22;&#x3E;betting lines&#x3C;/a&#x3E; are right: Hillary is still the strong favorite for the nomination. &#x26;nbsp;Follow below the fold for the discussion.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Hillary&#x27;s reserve strengths</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/12/1/416803/-Hillary-s-reserve-strengths</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Obama has some momentum and an excellent chance to win Iowa. &#x26;nbsp;A victory in Iowa could propel more independents to his camp and bring him victory in New Hampshire. &#x26;nbsp;Following those big wins, African Americans in South Carolina might break his way and give him a victory there too. &#x26;nbsp;With three wins in three key early states, he would have a virtual lock on the nomination, right?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Well, maybe not. &#x26;nbsp;See my thoughts below the fold.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Top Ten Reasons For Mandated Universal Health Care</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/11/30/416068/-Top-Ten-Reasons-For-Mandated-Universal-Health-Care</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Like many Democratic voters, health care reform is one of my most important priorities. &#x26;nbsp;I believe the &#x22;sine qua non&#x22; of any acceptable health care plan is &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Universal Health Care&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;. And, indeed, those who have followed discussion on these pages over the last few years would note that practically everybody who commented on the issue said the same thing: I remember just a few months ago, before Hillary released her health care plan, some people were predicting that it wouldn&#x27;t call for universal health care and that, for that reason, it should be rejected.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Well, here we are a few months later. &#x26;nbsp;And, as it turns out, Hillary&#x27;s plan, as well as the plans of other Democratic candidates, such as Edwards, Richardson, Dodd, and Kucinich, call for universal health care. &#x26;nbsp;But there is one major Democratic candidate who specifically rejects universal health care and makes it a point of principle that people should be able to opt out of participating. &#x26;nbsp;And surprisingly, many people on Daily Kos are now defending him. &#x26;nbsp;Read below the fold the 10 reasons why Obama is wrong and we need universally mandated participation on our health care system.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Individual Mandates and Universal Health Insurance</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/11/26/414617/-Individual-Mandates-and-Universal-Health-Insurance</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;The most important difference between the health plans put forth by Obama, on the one hand, and Edwards and Clinton, on the other hand, is that of individual mandates. &#x26;nbsp;Simply put, Edwards and Clinton would mandate that individuals purchase health insurance, whereas Obama would not. &#x26;nbsp;Are individual mandates a good thing or a bad thing? &#x26;nbsp;See discussion below.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Let&#x27;s talk about the social security cap</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/11/16/411438/-Let-s-talk-about-the-social-security-cap</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I&#x27;m what you might call a &#x22;tax and spend&#x22; liberal. &#x26;nbsp;If I were running for office, my Republican opponents could accurately attack me for saying there was never a tax that I didn&#x27;t like.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;However, I have serious qualms about Barack Obama&#x27;s proposal to lift the cap on the social security tax. &#x26;nbsp;And while I am a professed supporter of Hillary Clinton, I will do my best to analyze the issue objectively. &#x26;nbsp;I appreciate your thoughts on the issue too. &#x26;nbsp;See more beneath the fold.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>AFSCME endorses Hillary</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/10/31/404885/-AFSCME-endorses-Hillary</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;The 1.4 million member American Federation of State, County, &#x26;amp; Municipal Workers union (AFSCME) has &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.afscme.org/press/16739.cfm&#x22;&#x3E;endorsed&#x3C;/a&#x3E; Hillary Clinton for president.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;AFSCME has 30,000 members in Iowa alone, five times as many as SEIU there.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>A Clinton-Clark ticket?</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/9/16/386116/-A-Clinton-Clark-ticket</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://hillarysbloggers.com/2007/09/clinton-clark-ticket.html&#x22;&#x3E;Cross-posted at Hillary&#x27;s Bloggers&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I supported Clark in 2004, and I support Clinton now, but I never thought much about a Clinton-Clark ticket. I&#x27;ve always assumed that Clinton would always go for someone who could help deliver a key state (e.g., Ted Strickland, Mark Warner, Jim Webb) or could help provide an historic multi-ethnic, multi-gender ticket (e.g., Barack Obama, Bill Richardson). &#x26;nbsp;But now, having just reviewed Wesley Clark&#x27;s incredible impressive &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wesley_Clark&#x22;&#x3E;biography&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, I&#x27;m wondering if Clinton-Clark could be a good possibility. <title>New Hillary blog</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/9/7/381924/-New-Hillary-blog</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;A group of Clinton supporters from DailyKos and MyDD have launched &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://hillarysbloggers.com&#x22;&#x3E;HillarysBloggers.com&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, a new blog in support of Hillary&#x27;s campaign. &#x26;nbsp;We view this as a place where people who are either supportive of her campaign, or open-minded about it, can receive information and commentary about Hillary, her policies, and her campaign. It will include both original postings and cross-postings from DailyKos, MyDD and other blogs.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The blog will draw distinctions with other candidates when appropriate, but will intentionally avoid innuendo or attacks on any of the other candidates. &#x26;nbsp;We thus hope it will be a blog that people will feel comfortable inviting their friends, relatives, and co-workers to, no matter how well informed they are or are not about either Hillary or politics in general.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;We invite all who are open-minded about supporting Hillary to come visit &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://hillarysbloggers.com&#x22;&#x3E;HillarysBloggers.com&#x3C;/a&#x3E;.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;There seems to be a commonly accepted belief on DailyKos that we need to take a candidate or elected official&#x27;s constituency into account in rendering judgment. &#x26;nbsp;How does this effect our judgment of national candidates (i.e., for president?)&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The content is unremarkable, but it&#x27;s still worth a look for a couple of reasons. One, it&#x27;s really nice to see how relaxed Hillary is there--joking around, having a good time. &#x26;nbsp;The other thing that was amazing to me was how warmly received she was by the audience. &#x26;nbsp;It&#x27;s really nice to watch.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;My guess is that, if Hillary wins the nomination, these last few weeks will be seen as a key time.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;(OK, I know this is a pretty slim diary. &#x26;nbsp;Be gentle with me, OK?)&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;The reports today on Hillary&#x27;s response regarding nuclear weapons were truncated, and thus left out valuable information for understanding what she meant. See the fuller report below.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Do Cuba/Venezuela/N. Korea/Syria/Iran merit 1st year meetings?</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/7/29/364024/-Do-Cuba-Venezuela-N-Korea-Syria-Iran-merit-1st-year-meetings</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I&#x27;ve posted two diaries so far on this issue, one a &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/7/27/0386/52737&#x22;&#x3E;snark&#x3C;/a&#x3E; and one a serious discussion of five types of &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/7/28/02559/8235&#x22;&#x3E;preconditions&#x3C;/a&#x3E; that might be considered as prerequisites for meetings with foreign leaders. In this diary, I discuss these five countries in particular and evaluate which ones I think merit meetings in the 1st year of the next presidency, and under what conditions.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Let&#x27;s talk about preconditions</title>

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Since some people didn&#x27;t like my &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/7/27/0386/52737&#x22;&#x3E;snark&#x3C;/a&#x3E; yesterday, let&#x27;s have instead a serious talk about preconditions, without getting into &#x22;he said, she said.&#x22; I suggest there are at least five types of preconditions for a meeting between heads of state or government. More beneath the fold.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Dear Senator Obama:</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/7/26/363037/-Dear-Senator-Obama</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Congratulations on really taking the fight to the &#x22;Bush-lites&#x22; in our party. &#x26;nbsp;Your comment that you would be willing to meet with the leaders of North Korea, Iran, Syria, Cuba, and Venezuela in your first year of office without preconditions was a stroke of genius! &#x26;nbsp;That is exactly the kind of new diplomacy we need.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Obama&#x27;s experience in historical context</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/7/11/356564/-Obama-s-experience-in-historical-context</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Polls indicate that Hillary Clinton has a huge advantage over Barack Obama in voters&#x27; assessments of candidates&#x27; experience. &#x26;nbsp;To further consider the challenges that Obama faces in this regard, I did some investigation of previous presidents. Look below the fold to see what I found.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>For Peace and Prosperity: Examining HRC&#x27;s Vision</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/6/21/349202/-For-Peace-and-Prosperity-Examining-HRC-s-Vision</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;A number of people here have been complaining that Hillary Clinton supporters post too many poll results, and rarely post diaries laying out why they support Clinton. So, by popular demand, here&#x27;s why I&#x27;m supporting Hillary Clinton for President. More beneath the fold.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Analyzing the effect of D-Punjab memo</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/6/15/347157/-Analyzing-the-effect-of-D-Punjab-memo</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Yesterday I &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/6/15/122255/840&#x22;&#x3E;diaried&#x3C;/a&#x3E; about the Obama campaign&#x27;s D-Punjab memo. Today I want to talk about what I think the political effect of this will be.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The majority on DKos seem to think that this was a politically unsound attack by Obama and that it didn&#x27;t serve his campaign well. However, a vocal minority believes that the attack was on target and will stick. (And, to paraphrase what some have said, that the only people who will be pissed off will be a few rich Indian-Americans, and who cares about them.) I offer my opinion beneath the fold.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>&#x22;Hillary Clinton (D-Punjab)&#x22; says Obama campaign</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/6/15/346920/--Hillary-Clinton-D-Punjab-says-Obama-campaign</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Though I support Hillary Clinton, I also like Obama very much and would be pleased to see him become Vice-President and, in the future, President. &#x26;nbsp;However, his campaign has done something that troubles me, and that some would say panders to nativist and anti-Indian sentiment. &#x26;nbsp;Follow below the fold for more.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>&#x22;We&#x27;re safer.&#x22;  Edwards said it first.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/6/4/342777/--We-re-safer-Edwards-said-it-first</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;People are trying to make a mountain out of the fact that Hillary said that we are safer now, but not yet safe enough.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Here is a direct quote from a &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.iptv.org/IowaPress/transcripts/3117.cfm&#x22;&#x3E;press interview&#x3C;/a&#x3E; with John Edwards on December 26 2003:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Yepsen: SENATOR, WE&#x27;VE ONLY GOT A COUPLE MINUTES LEFT, BUT I WANT TO GO BACK TO THE WAR ON TERRORISM. YOU&#x27;RE A MEMBER OF THE INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE. IS THE UNITED STATES SAFER TODAY THAN WE WERE ON 9/11?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Edwards: YES, WE&#x27;RE SAFER. WE&#x27;RE NOT AS SAFE AS WE NEED TO BE.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Let&#x27;s hear all the spin...&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I think it&#x27;s a reasonable point. &#x26;nbsp;Both Clinton and Edwards were being asked about domestic intelligence and security work. &#x26;nbsp;Clinton was being asked specifically about a successful breakup of a major attack in the state she represents, New York. &#x26;nbsp;It was important for her to say something that recognized that successful intelligence work. &#x26;nbsp;I think the point that she made (and that Edwards similarly made earlier) is reasonable--yes, we&#x27;ve done some things that need to be done, but we have a lot more to do. &#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>How Hillary has personally touched my life</title>

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Those who have read my diaries and comments know that I strongly support Hillary Clinton for president. Overall, I am very impressed with her political vision, experience, ability, and willingness to fight for what&#x27;s right. However, beyond my general support for her, I have had a very specific and personal experience which has amplified my admiration for her. Read more beneath the fold.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
