https://www.dailykos.com/user/neckbeard/rss/index.xml News Community Action Copyright 2005 - Steal what you want Mon, 27 Jan 2020 04:57:22 +0000 Mon, 27 Jan 2020 04:57:22 +0000 Daily Kos rss@dailykos.com (Daily Kos) Daily Kos rss@dailykos.com (Daily Kos) https://www.dailykos.com/story/2017/3/4/1640220/-Daily-KOS-Cincinnati-Meeting <p>A bunch of folks who read DAILY KOS got together today in Cincinnati to discuss how to get our messages to our elected officials.   The meeting was led by Rachel Colyer, Senior Campaign Director of DAILY KOS.  David Akadjian spoke as well.  It was wonderful to gather with a bunch of likeminded people.  We did meet in the basement of an old pub in Over-the-Rhein, so it felt a bit like we were the resistance plotting against Hitler.  Hell, maybe that’s exactly what we were doing.</p> <p class="is-empty-p"></p> rss@dailykos.com (neckbeard) Cincinnati DailyKos DavidAkadjian Meetup rachelcolyer Resist _1640220 Sun, 05 Mar 2017 01:15:21 +0000 https://www.dailykos.com/story/2017/3/4/1640141/-I-Used-to-Think-Trump-was-Entertaining <p>Over the years I found myself drawn to Donald Trump’s big personality.  I’ll admit that I found him entertaining on his Howard Stern appearances.  I even watched the Celebrity Apprentice for a couple of seasons.  His outlandish behavior always seemed to be an act.   I thought he was just a shameless self promoter interested in garnering attention for his brand.</p> <p>When he decided to run for President, my wife posed the idea that he was doing it as a lark to derail the Republican ticket and help out Hillary.  The man had ties to the Democratic Party in the past, specifically to the Clintons.  Apparently, Trump’s persona was not an act.  The outrageous statements and thin skinned demeanor are actually Donald Trump. When his campaign kept its momentum after his endless stream of horrific statements:  building the wall, jailing women for having abortions, disputing John McCain being a war hero, grabbing women by their (you know), I began to fear the man and his movement.</p> <p>I never believed he would really win the election, but having seen what the American electorate was capable of in 2004, I was still worried.  The night of the election was one of the worst nights of my life, and I’ve had some bad ones.  My initial reaction was fear, but I thought for some reason, that Trump would lessen his hateful divisive rhetoric and swing back to the middle.</p> <p>Unfortunately, that has not been the case.  Ronald Dump, as my children like to call him, has been everything his campaign suggested.  His Twitter rants, his name calling, his lack of caring about the rest rest of the world have all continued.  We are now left with a possible Putin-like despot in the making.  While he continues to lie and hurt and spew his insane agendas, his party’s spineless leaders  (Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell, I’m referring to you) turn a blind eye and cower without standing up to the bully. </p> <p>I’ve learned something from this.  I will never view an election as entertainment.
