<title>UFO over China (Edit 2)</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/7/15/884720/-UFO-over-China-Edit-2</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I&#x27;m not fully sure if anyone has really written about this yet, I looked a bit and didn&#x27;t see anything immediately so I decided to do so. This is semi old news but I heard about it first today in a small blurb on CNN. A UFO was spotted over a Chinese Airport, and air traffic was actually stopped for a time as a result of its presence.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I felt a bit odd hearing that. A air traffic being stopped briefly due to UFO. Despite that CNN did not take it seriously and merely mentioned it as a side note joke.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Some pictures etc below the fold&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>A very large and complicated problem</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/7/14/884333/-A-very-large-and-complicated-problem</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;For a long time I&#x27;ve had suspicions that something big was happening, that the global system as it has been for the past century is failing. There are glimmers of the giant crisis that shine through smaller problems. However when these smaller problems are viewed in concert there is reason for serious concern. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Just watched &#x22;Collapse&#x22; it was a Horror Movie (The Peak Oil Story)</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/7/11/883567/-Just-watched-Collapse-it-was-a-Horror-Movie-The-Peak-Oil-Story</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Been out of writing commission for a while as that heat wave swept through the North East. My computer happens to reside in a nonairconditioned room. This led me to stay far far away, but did not stop me from watching movies.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Two days ago I was invited to my cousin&#x27;s house to watch a movie with the extended fam. The movie of choice happened to be a documentary called &#x22;Collapse&#x22;. It was essentially an interview w/ Michael Rupert + Pictures. We watched as a family then discussed after. There were many points in the movie that really caught my attention. I was particularly fascinated by the concept of &#x22;Peak Oil&#x22;. It wasn&#x27;t that the idea was new to me, nor that the surrounding issues were new, but how severe his predictions were that caught my attention.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Big Oil/Coal caused it all :(</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/7/5/881777/-Big-Oil-Coal-caused-it-all</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;There was once a time when man kind worked on solar energy. Well not to produce electricity, but to grow crops, to light the outdoors, and other various things. We did not have the capacity to do much work at night, due to the lack of light. Sure there were lamps for inside the house, but this was about it, work did not continue into the night. Transportation was slow, so most food was local, people had to manually do the farming with the assistance of horses, and all this worked to limit the population of the world.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Then came oil and coal. They increased the hours that could be worked, the distances that could be traveled, the amounts of food that could be grown, the size of cities that could be built etc etc etc.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Not only did oil and coal cause the population explosion. But it caused most of our climate woes as well.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>What needs to Happen this November</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/6/28/880061/-What-needs-to-Happen-this-November</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;The obvious is that we need to get progressives in office to make Obama more effective. We obviously need to stifle the reactionary Tea Party. These are simply no brainers. We also need to &#x22;energize the base&#x22; and &#x22;drum up support&#x22; for our candidates. This is also obvious. And while these are extremely important there is one more task. Well at least one more, and it&#x27;s on par in importance as all of these others. We need to register voters!&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Lied to</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/6/27/879801/-Lied-to</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;In school I was told the profit motive will save us all. It will trickle down to all of us and save us from despotism and poverty.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;In school I was told everyone has a fair shot to make it, all it&#x27;ll take is hard work. The hidden but not said implication was that all of us had an equal shot to get there.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;In school I was taught to look out for myself, my grade was the only grade that should matter to me, and group work was minimized. Individualism was marketed as my personal savior.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;In school I was taught that the purpose of education was to get a job, in fact I never really remember anyone talking about learning how to think. That wasn&#x27;t important apparently ... which is why we were taught to memorize.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;In short, I feel lied to. Anything great that has been accomplished in the world has been accomplished by a group. Martin&#x27;s speech wouldn&#x27;t have mattered if no one was there. Malcom X wouldn&#x27;t have been terrifying to the establishment if no one listened to him. Gandi woulda just been an old fool if the people didn&#x27;t support him. Group group group group group. Man do I feel lied to. The look out for self mentality well it doesn&#x27;t get ya very far.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

What I heard was from a recent news report, it was much later that night. &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.wfsb.com/video/24023130/index.html&#x22;&#x3E;The news report&#x3C;/a&#x3E; After listening to this report I realized that I live a couple blocks away from a plant that produces plastics.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Community Matters</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/6/25/879241/-Community-Matters</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Been on this train of thought for some time now as my frequent readers know. I live in the heart of New Haven CT,and I&#x27;ve been wondering how to shift and shape my community into a healthy organism. I&#x27;ve put a lot of thought into this, and really came to the conclusion that community is alive, much like an ecosystem. So if we approach it from that stand point then maybe we should be making sure the organism is healthy.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The comments I&#x27;ve been reading from all of my readers have provided a ton of insight and have led me to crafting some new thoughts out of them. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;More below the fold.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>The Factory Down the Street Burned Down. Edit 3 It WAS A CHEMICAL PLANT!!!</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/6/24/878944/-The-Factory-Down-the-Street-Burned-Down-Edit-3-It-WAS-A-CHEMICAL-PLANT</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I woke up this morning to the smell of smoke. I decided to investigate. I walked downstairs and outside, then took a look down the street. What I saw was smoke billowing from behind the house at the end of the street. It was then that I knew the factory down the street had caught fire. My father followed soon after me down those stairs. I walked down the street barefoot to investigate. I guess I forgot to wear shoes. That factory had been there and operational since before I had moved to my current house. I was 14 back then, I&#x27;m 27 now. The fire was huge, the flames were visible from down the block. It was then I knew that the damage to the factory was going to be really really bad. The smoke was thick and black so I decided to get back inside turn the fans on exhaust and try to save my lungs.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The sadder story below the fold.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Strange to Think About [edit 1]</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/6/23/878658/-Strange-to-Think-About-edit-1</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I was thinking today about something my dad told me a long while back. Something I never really gave much thought until I was day dreaming on the back porch. (Day Dreaming due to unemployment and no call backs after over 100 applications ... its ok though I&#x27;ll be back in school in August) Anyways back to what my dad told me. He said when he was a kid he knew the guy who sold him food personally, because his dad knew him, and the whole community knew him. Even crazier still, the guy at the market knew the people he got most of the food from. He knew which farmers got him the meats and the vegetables and the fruit. He had personal relationships with them. So my dad was only the second step that food went on. Farmer -&#x26;gt; Market -&#x26;gt; people.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;My thoughts below ...&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Which Side are You on!!!</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/6/22/878277/-Which-Side-are-You-on</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;My first diary on this song and its implications was well received and I thank the community for that. In its sequel I will once again post the video for those unfamiliar with the song as well as talk about issues I see in my community as well as others. Oh ya and of course I will write some poetry for the diary.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I really hope you all enjoy and comment on the diary. It&#x27;s important that the conversation about how to get everyone active politically and in their communities is continued.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;If you hate hip hop that&#x27;s fine, if you don&#x27;t want to listen to the song or read its lyrics that&#x27;s fine too. All I ask if that you engage in the discussion.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/6/20/877691/-Which-Side-are-You-on</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I have to thank one of the most recent comments in one of my diaries about underground hip hop. The song AoT posted was so sick it needed a diary named after it. The song is straight up ridiculously powerful and good.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Below the section inspired by the song I will attempt to put together a brief set of actions also inspired by AoT. These actions will not be fully fleshed out because I don&#x27;t even know who I can work with yet in my area. With further research I&#x27;ll continue to put that together. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Further down the road to UG rap helping</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/6/19/877498/-Further-down-the-road-to-UG-rap-helping</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Just yesterday I posted a diary explaining that I would love to see UG hip hop become a major force for progressive education. Today I continue to promote my musical interest as a means to help our inner cities evolve politically. So here we go.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Warning this will be somewhat of a ramble. There will be some poems and ideas thrown together hopefully in a way that somewhat makes sense. Unfortunately I don&#x27;t have time to fully flesh out or write properly these days. For that I apologize. On the plus side there will be songs attached.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>UG Hip Hop as Social Marketing</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/6/18/877479/-UG-Hip-Hop-as-Social-Marketing</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I&#x27;ve been unsuccessful lately with my diaries. I&#x27;ve been trying to show a little underground hip hop that I enjoy for its social commentary to the community and haven&#x27;t really felt the love. I&#x27;m not sure how to feel about that but I guess I feel I must continue to promote that which is a part of my culture here. Mostly because I feel as though it can become a useful tool.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;This will be my second diary featuring a song I really feel does a good job of describing the social situation. Not all of the songs are new, but they still feel relevant to me. I hope they also feel relevant to you. Well without any further introduction ...&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Graffiti the World</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/6/14/875895/-Graffiti-the-World</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I was listening to this song the other day. I don&#x27;t often read any diaries about the current state of underground hip hop, but I feel it&#x27;s important to give credit where credit is due. There have been some great songs released hitting on current issues including the environment and current political issues.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;This diary is about one such song that I feel is especially pertinent right now. The song below the fold.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
