New Ohio Fraud investigation - Cuyahoga county

CLEVELAND - Erie County Prosecutor Kevin J. Baxter is investigating whether the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections broke the law in its recount of ballots from the November presidential election.
The probe stems from two requests written to Mason: one from minor-party presidential candidates David Cobb and Michael Badnarik, and another from entrepreneurial consultant Edward Michael Caner.

Dalton said Mason turned over the papers March 2.

The complaints allege that the board violated state law because the precincts it recounted were neither randomly selected nor was the opening of ballots properly witnessed.

In addition, Cobb and Badnarik allege that there were problems with the board's ballot-transfer cases, which can reveal whether the precinct used the ballots assigned to it or whether ballots from other precincts were used.

Former president Jimmy Carter will lead a bipartisan commission to examine problems with the U.S. election system, American University's Center for Democracy and Election Management said yesterday.

Carter, a Democrat whose Carter Center has monitored more than 50 elections around the world, will co-chair the private commission with Republican James A. Baker III, who served as secretary of state under President George H.W. Bush.

Jimmy Carter said the commission will consider "issues of inclusion" and propose improvements.

Former Senate minority leader Thomas A. Daschle (S.D.), a Democrat who lost his seat in the 2004 election, will also participate.

Clinton, Boxer Pushing E-Voting Bill in Senate
Their measure mandates a voter-verified paper ballot for e-voting machines

by Todd R. Weiss, Computerworld
February 28th, 2005

A wide-ranging bill that, among other things, would mandate a voter-verified paper ballot for every vote cast in electronic voting machines has been introduced by Sens. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) and Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.). The Count Every Vote Act, they said, is needed to address shortcomings related to existing e-voting technology.

Teresa Kerry - Skeptical of integrity of November vote count

COUNTING THE VOTES: Heinz Kerry is openly skeptical about results from November's election, particularly in sections of the country where optical scanners were used to record votes.

"Two brothers own 80 percent of the machines used in the United States," Heinz Kerry said. She identified both as "hard-right" Republicans. She argued that it is "very easy to hack into the mother machines."

"We in the United States are not a banana republic," added Heinz Kerry. She argued that Democrats should insist on "accountability and transparency" in how votes are tabulated.

"I fear for '06," she said. "I don't trust it the way it is right now."
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/connelly/214744_joel07.html
------
Are we going to waste tons of money and effort only to get punked again by rigged elections? Why should the grassroots fight if the leaders, bloggers and pundits won't stand up for a clean election?
Zogby was correct. Kerry won. the silence is deafening.
