(
From the diaries -- kos)
For people who do not understand the difference between what Howard Dean would do as DNC Chair and the current establishment one needs to look no further than the recount for Washington State Governor's race. The state of Washington has only 14 hours to pays fees in excess of $1 million to ask for a hand recount in the Governor's election.
So the party has responded. In very different and telling ways.
John Kerry did the old fashioned way -- he wrote a check for $200,000.
The DNC sent an e-mail out to their list -- asking people to give money to the DNC.
Howard Dean, asked his supporters to help the people in need -- the Washington State Democratic Party.
Howard Dean is still the only one that gets it.
Howard Dean cut out the middle men and brought the grassroots in to help solve what is usually a back room problem. He sent an e-mail out asking his list: "Will you help them pay the fee to protect every voter?" and asked his supporters to give money directly to the state party so they can fight the fight on their own terms. He put his faith in the Washington State Party and in the grassroots.
Markos pointed to an article that lays out how many leaders are looking to the DNC to change from a Presidential focused committee to one that concentrates on building the state parties. This is just one of the examples of how Howard Dean understands how to make this happen, ever since his campaign ended he has been rebuilding the grassroots and raising money for Dean Dozen candidates all over the country.
These are the choices we have in front of us for DNC Chair:
The big money way --- writing checks.
The DNC way -- everything goes into Washington, and maybe it comes out.
The Howard Dean way -- the way that can rebuild the Democratic Party for years to come.
