Last time I checked, Article II didn't give the President the power to appoint a nominee with the advise and the consent of the media. Yet so many take the media's smug words that "Alito will be confirmed" as gospel. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy, where the media and the GOP tell us we'll fail, so we believe them, and we do.
Senators have yet to cast their votes, and we're already putting another black robe on Alito and bringing the hangers out of the closet. Sure, Feinstein and too many Democrats have come and said they don't think a filibuster is warranted. But you know what? It isn't their damn decision. It's ours. They represent us.
Don't tell me a filibuster isn't warranted when 56% of this nation says Alito SHOULD be blocked if he'll overturn Roe. Don't tell me a filibuster isn't warranted when Alito implied Bush could invade Iran without the consent of Congress. And don't tell me a filibuster isn't warranted when it's my rights, my body, my way of life on the line.
I keep hearing the Dems needs to "grow a spine." That we need "angry" Dems, we need Dems with courage. We need Dems with courage. Well guess what-- we HAVE angry Dems, we HAVE courageous Dems. Look in the damn mirror, people. WE are the party. WE are the Democrats. We're angry, we spit fire, and our time has come.

isappointed with the Democrats' performance during the hearings? So am I. Want to opt out the party because of it? Do whatever you want in the midterms. But today, right now, we either stand up for our ideals or we surrender our party's soul forever. Republicans and their handmaidens in the media have already taken so much away from us. Don't let them take away our hope as well.
I remember sitting in front of the TV as the 2004 election results came in, and as the dark reality of what had occurred surrounded me, I suddenly felt tears streaming down my cheeks. And I distinctly remember thinking to myself, "what the fuck, you're crying about politics"? But I wasn't tearing up because of politics. I was tearing up because I am an American. I love my country, and I could foresee the wounds this President would inflict on our nation. I felt desolate, lost, and hopeless. But I soon found hope again. Where? Not in the words of Biden, or Reid, or Obama, but in myself. I knew that this liberal inside of me would never die, no matter how red the world became around me. So don't look for hope amongst career politicians; you'll find it fleeting. The truest hope--the type of hope that sparks social change and progress--comes from you, and the fact that you're here, giving a damn, while millions in this country do not.
So let those who don't have the stomach for this fight stand back and let us who do lead the way. Because we cannot live a life of regret. I hear so much of what we will lose if we get into this fight, but what of what we'll win? There is so much to be gained by taking our stand, here and now. And I want to be part of that. When I have children, I'm going to look them in their eyes and tell them that yes, your mother was there. When the rest of the nation was blissfully unaware of the fate that had befallen us, me and a few million of my anonymous friends stepped up to the plate and saved this nation from the brink of fascism. I'll them I was there when Congress rallied up and shook off the yoke of its President King. That I was there when the clock was running out and America's back was up against the wall--and I helped her fight back. Never will I utter any phrase with more pride than "I was there."

ut Georgia, you say, there's only so much we can do, and the Democratic leaders themselves aren't up to the fight. Yet reluctance on the part of our leaders to fight is not a surprise--they're politicians, for fuck's sake. What IS a surprise is how many liberals take that reluctance to be the curtain call of this sad play.
When our leaders fail us, that isn't the end of the battle--it's just the beginning. Every time a Democrat drops his sword, we pick up ten. Every time they stumble, we scoop them up, throw them on our backs, and force them to journey with us as we save this nation.
There are millions of us, yet we get crestfallen when one of 246 Democrats backs down. But it is our duty as citizens and liberals, when we see hesitance on the part of our leaders, to push them back in the ring. It's our hands--millions of them--which should be pressing upon their backs, forcing them to confront the fight which must be fought.
Call your Senator. If you've never contacted your Senator before, now is the time. Put their number on your fucking speed dial. Call them morning and night, call them every goddamn day until the vote. Fill their email boxes and their voicemail. There is no excuse for inaction. We are each citizen soldiers in this fight. It'll be a tough fight, for sure, with an uncertain outcome. But we're armed with an unparalleled love for this country, and, above all, an immortal hope that we will prevail. Let's show the world what it truly means to be a Democrat-- a protector of this great nation, and a fighter 'til the very end.
