This year's
Pulitzers have been announced, featuring some outstanding work, and some not so outstanding work, but that happens.
Of particular note are: Nick Kristof, who might not be the best columnist in the world, but who's relentless focus on Darfur was superb; The Sun Herald, Biloxi, Miss. and The Times-Picayune, New Orleans for public service in the wake of Hurricane Katrina; James Risen and Eric Lichtblau of The New York Times for their work on warrantless wiretapping.
Finally, and probably most deserved of all, Dana Priest of The Washington Post won for her beat reporting and
"her persistent, painstaking reports on secret 'black site' prisons and other controversial features of the government's counterterrorism campaign."
One notable omission from the Pulitzers? Fred Hiatt from The Washington Post. He was robbed!!! Heh.
Update [2006-4-17 17:12:15 by mcjoan]: Just caught this page of the blog reaction to the Risen/Lichtblau story. It's a hoot. Assrocket's reaction: "Let's Send These Guys to Jail." Can't be having a free press.
