There are so many actions and inactions North Carolina's current Representative from the 8th District has to run from and defend, let's just offer a few for his consideration.
a) Congressman Hayes, do you still believe "Saddam Hussein and people like him were very much involved in 9/11" as you told a national audience last year on CNN's Daybreak?
Told no investigation had ever found evidence to link Saddam and 9/11, Hayes responded, "I'm sorry, but you must have looked in the wrong places."
b) Congressman Hayes, are you proud of your response to our school's superintendent when questioned about the massive federal intrusion of "No Child Left Behind" that you voted for?
Screaming "You need me more than I need you!" at your constituents in front of a newspaper reporter is something most regular people would remember.
c) Congressman Hayes, does this ring any bells?
"I am flat-out, completely, horizontally opposed to CAFTA."
Congressman Robin Hayes
[Charlotte Observer, 7/25/2005]
"Every time I drive through Kannapolis and I see those empty plants I know there is no way I could vote for CAFTA."
Congressman Robin Hayes
[AP 7/14/2005]
"What does CAFTA sound like? NAFTA.... It's not in the best interests of a core constituency I represent."
Congressman Robin Hayes
[Raleigh News and Observer, 7/14/2005]
d) Or how about that tearful night on the House floor in 2001 when you changed your vote for the President on Fast Track Trade Authority?
Really, you said you cried. Don't you remember crying Congressman Hayes?
e) I know, it has to be voting to give $2.6 billion in subsidies to those Big Oil companies you own so much stock in, now that you see how bad your constituents are actually hurting.
Surely, that has to be it. Right Congressman?
I had a staffer put together this poll so the people can help Robin Hayes out with his faulty memory. So, what do you guys think?
