As we (United states) dive into the new millenia, we are finding ourselves reliant on other countries to keep our lights on and our cars running.
our presence in Iraq is causing other nation populations to have low opinions of the united states and facilitating aggression toward the people of America.
Some say that the real reason we went into Iraq is to grab up the oil, what ever is left. We (the United states) have spent billions of dollars in this "war" and there is no foreseeable end to the money and deaths this war is costing.
Had the American people (tax payers) and government spent the same amount of money that we had spent in this frivolous war in a concentrated effort to research and realize Fusion energy, we could have gotten the first ever Fusion reactor on-line and we could be selling the excess energy to Mexico and Canada while developing an infrastructure to capitalize on the excess energy produced by the reactor by selling it to Europe and Asia.
The first country and government to bring on-line a Fusion reactor will become the most powerful and richest country on earth.
In reality, we should be selling energy to the world.
and not starting wars over a non renewable scarce resource that pollutes the air and causes environmental damage.
this stupid decision by our leaders is causing us to spiral into a second rate panhandler country begging (more like holding up or mugging other countries) for pennies.
as it stands right now, it looks like japan and china will be vying for the title of having the first operational commercial fusion reactor on-line in the world.
it irks me to think that this technology is so close but being totally ignored by congress.
Can America afford to let another country get this technology?
