It's the national color that indicates you are for impeaching Bush and Cheney. Do you want to wear one? They're free, I say. I sure do she replies, my son is in Iraq and I'm really scared for him. A woman next to her raises her hand and says, I'll take one. Then another person raises their hand and they take a bandana. Take what ever or as many as you want I say. Soon hands are popping up all over and beckoning me to come to them and for the next half hour or so I am in a steady flow going from person to person giving out orange. I'm thanked continually for my efforts as bandanas are wrapped around heads, wrists and baby strollers. Soon there is no where you can look without seeing orange.
I've been speaking at our city council meetings and have submitted a resolution for the council to vote on impeachment and to send the message up the chain. I now have four of the seven counsilors who have expressed that they believe Bush and Cheney are out of control with one of them now giving me notes on amendments they would like on the resolution. Things are looking very positive. With only the recent help of another, I have essentially, single handedly captured the focus of my community and city council regarding impeachment. Yes, I'm boasting but more so relating to you that yes, just you can make a considerable difference.
Below is my latest letter to the council followed by the resolution.
You will note that the letter ties the city council to the Constitution. A debate I've been having with one Councilor is the semantics of their oath that states to "uphold" the Constitution of the United States. The counter is whether you are enforcing or upholding the city council is still directly connected to the Constitution and it is possible if they were not to act they may be put mortally at odds with their constituancy. We all need to become walking talking propaganda machines. I bought 1200 bandanas at 36 cents each and rolls of 1/2 inch ribbon and boxes of safety pins. For more on the orange campaign see World Can't Wait. Look here to find Town Hall meetings.

UPDATE The color orange originated from World Can't Wait. using Guantanamo orange jumpsuits and black hoods in protest street theater. From there someone introduced orange as the national indicator for impeachment. It is a very good marketing tool for a movement to have something like this. It's going to blow the yellow ribbon car magnet out of the water.

Letter To The Bend, Oregon City Council
Dear Council person,
When I last spoke before the city council, I reminded the council members that upon accepting your positions each of you had taken an oath to protect the Constitution of the United States of America. You also were elected to serve and to protect the citizens of Bend. I spoke to you requesting that you review a resolution that I had prepared that requests that the United States House of Representatives initiate the impeachment process of President George and Vice President Dick Cheney. A resolution that the Bend City Council should fully endorse and then proclaim your resolution to the rest of the country. I am retracting and changing my request. As a citizen of Bend and as one of your constituents and representing many others in Bend, I demand that you fulfill your oaths taken and take the necessary actions to protect the Constitution of the United States of America and to protect the citizens of Bend.
As is with the majority of Americans now believing that global warming is a fact and is a problem that needs to be dealt with, I believe there is also a majority of Americans who believe that our constitution is under attack and is a problem that needs to be dealt with. To deny this one must be either out of touch with current affairs and politics or is a person who chooses to blindly follow the rhetoric and talking points of the Bush administration and the complicit mainstream media. I also believe that the growing consensus among Americans is that we have been reduced to one resolution to this problem and that is to Impeach President George Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. I'm not going to review the lengthy list of the grounds and reasons upon which these three would be impeached because as I just mentioned if you don't know by now you are out of touch.
What I am going to review is why I am writing this letter and why I am addressing my city council. Simply, I am afraid. I believe that our Constitution no longer protects me. Sadly, what I once thought was an impervious rock solid institution is now not much more that a piece of paper. With the President's endless signing statements of why the constitution doesn't apply to him, the loss of habeas corpus and presidential executive orders so broadly written that my property now can be blocked, my business shut down and myself imprisoned without notice and without legal recourse, yes I am afraid. Also, it is clear now that the Attorney General, Alberto Gonzales is completely ethically bankrupt yet will be staying at the pleasure of the President. Furthermore it also appears that the Supreme Court of the United States is also out of balance with possible impeachment investigations being considered. It is clear that protection of the checks and balances that has kept our constitution strong are now gone.
So again, I am not asking. I am demanding that you fulfill your oaths taken and protect the members of our community. Further below is the draft resolution I presented. If necessary edit it to better suit you but do not change the intent and that is the recommendation of impeachment proceedings. As a matter of courtesy, please respond that you have received this email.
Yours truly,
