Crisitunity in the comments to the Mark Pera endorsement post below distills why this matters quite nicely:
This primary can actually work. Unlike most of the rest of the errant Dems, Lipinski doesn't have a Republican-leaning district for cover or a ready-made excuse; his district's at D+10, by far the bluest district represented by a 'Bush Dog' (according to the Open Left list). And even if he still wins, it might well pay dividends; remember how much Jane Harman and Al Wynn have changed their stripes since getting primaried upside the head last year.
Plus, I hope this is a real "shit or get off the pot" moment for a lot of the "Democrats have lost me [or at least my money]" crowd here. Here's a bad Dem, a viable primary challenger, and a dark-blue district... doesn't get any better than that. Errant Dems aren't swayed by online pouting and foot-stomping; they're swayed by exactly two things: money for their opponents, and votes for their opponents.
Amen.
