Archpundit:
We have the Daily Breeze article
We have the John Gibson show
And we have her saying on Fox News that she said it during a talk–the talk described in the Daily Breeze is scheduled for this upcoming Sunday. She claims she said it at a paid speech after a question.
It's all so bizarre. Take this snippet from the John Gibson show back on February 26th:
Ferraro: When I see John Lewis ... a civil rights leader, why in God's name did he change his vote from Hillary to Barack Obama. I'll tell you why, because he faces -- he's not going to lose a Democratic primary in his district in two years, but he sure as hell will face one if he sticks it to Barack Obama when he has a greater majority of blacks in his district ... I'm so disappointed in him I could die.
I look at Rosa DeLauro up in Connecticut. She represents New Haven. Tell me -- I don't care what she says -- tell me why she's endorsing Barack Obama ... and then came to his defense on an issue like choice where he voted six times maybe, when he voted present -- I'm like a lunatic about this stuff ...
If Barack Obama were a white man, would we be talking about this as a potential real problem for Hillary? If he were a woman of any color, would he be in this position?
She is like a lunatic. A racist one, ginning up white resentment for the benefit of a key Clinton demographic.
What's worse, she's keeping it up today with the clear tacit approval of the Clinton campaign, who have no problem keeping her as a surrogate and member of her finance committee.
"It wasn't a racist comment, it was a statement of fact," she said on CBS' Early Show, adding that she would leave Hillary Clinton's national finance committee if she were asked.
Ferraro also said this:
She told Sawyer she was trying to say it's a good thing that Obama was where he was. Ferraro said she was saying that "the black community came out with ... pride in [Obama's] candidacy. You would think he would say 'thank you' for doing that, instead, I'm charged with being a racist."
"Good things"? Look at that quote from Gibson's show again -- her frothing rant against Lewis and DeLauro are not positive statements. Nor was this:
if Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position.
Or this:
Racism works in two different directions. I really think they're attacking me because I'm white. How's that?
It is all-out white resentment in action, and her attempts to spin that away are pathetic.
Every black and Latino student who has ever been accused of getting college admissions because of his or her race or ethnicity knows this accusation isn't a "good thing". Every black and Latino worker who has ever been accused of getting a job because of his or her race knows this isn't a "good thing".
This is nothing new for Ferraro, but her high-profile flameout these past few days are destroying her positive legacy on a minute-by-minute basis. And she appears to be in no mood to reverse course.
Meanwhile, the Clinton campaign is in no hurry to stem the bleeding. Clearly, they've made a calculated decision that this is good politics in certain parts of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Kentucky, so why put the brakes on it?
