Per MSNBC, record turnout in this election: 52%. Say what you want about the final results, democracy is grand. And while Republicans cackle in glee at this battle, fact is we have 300,000 new Democrats in Pennsylvania making our general election chances that much better than would otherwise have been the case.
Bowers:
Polls have closed. The first exit poll can be found here. Quick multiplication of the gender crosstabs produces Clinton 52%--48% Obama. The first exits are usually adjusted, however. I can already see a problem where the exits claim that Philadelphia and its suburbs where only 29% of the electorate. Yeah, right.
Early, irrational exuberance? I am pessimistic tonight. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than let down. Early exit polls are always statistically adjusted. Then again, it's hard to not be optimistic with this exit poll data:
Obama's vote:
Philadelphia: 69%
Philly suburbs: 62%
Pittsburgh: 38%
Rest of state: 42%
Those are exceedingly good numbers for Obama.
