I'm certain that many of you have noticed that diaries about climate change, species extinction, water policy and other environmental questions, don't get as much attention as they deserve and often scroll off before you become aware of them.
You, yourself, may have posted your environmental diaries only to see them quickly disappear almost unnoticed? If either of these scenarios applies to you, you should consider joining the Daily Kos Environmentalists' list.
Here's how it works.
From the list's homepage:
Welcome! This group is for ANYONE interested in the environment. We are readers, posters, and lurkers on DailyKos.com. This group serves as a clearinghouse and rapid alert system for green-themed diaries. DailyKos offers a remarkable opportunity to elevate green issues nationally, not least because DailyKos is frequented by the press, party leaders, and the general public.
As we know during times of heavy usage, diaries don't stay up on the new diaries list for very long, particularly if you have the set button at the bottom of the new diaries list set for anything less than the maximum of 50.
The only way that a diary can stay on the front page and continue to attract attention is if it makes the recommended list (or if it's rescued, which is a wonderful service provided by a number of hardworking, dedicated Kossacks to give worthwhile but overlooked diaries a second chance at life).
The goal of Daily Kos Environmentalists is to bring environmental/climate diaries to the attention of as many people as possible.
People who belong to the list write a brief email to the list when they publish a new environmental diary or when they notice that someone else has. The list immediately sends an email out to everyone on the list with a URL so that they can check out the diary and see if they wish to recommend it. As you are probably aware, to make the recommended list a diary needs a lot of recs fast.
I personally prefer to copy the first couple paragraphs of a diary to give other members a sense of what the diary is about. You will then receive an email that looks something like this. DON'T FORGET TO INCLUDE THE URL!
Support President Obama by Joining Daily Kos Environmentalists Hotlist

This week President Obama will try to get Congressional approval for a stimulus bill that provides immediate stimulus to the economy while laying the groundwork for new green infrastructure that will create jobs and start us down the path to solving the climate crisis.
After that, the administration will try to get a science-based Climate Change bill through Congress that will continue the work of shifting us to sustainable energy, building the green economy, and reducing green house gas emissions to a level that will avoid the most catastrophic consequences of Climaticide. By the end of the year the Obama administration needs to have lain the groundwork for an international treaty in Copenhagen that will restore the world's confidence in America's ability and willingness to lead on this, the most important issue of our time.
If you are interested in supporting this policy agenda I would encourage you to consider joining Daily Kos Environmentalists.
I'm certain that many of you have noticed that diaries about climate change, species extinction, water policy and other environmental questions, don't get much attention here and are often overlooked when they are posted here on DK.
If you are concerned that such a system will flood your inbox with email, you can choose to receive a daily digest which will still alert you to new diaries.
Sound good? I hope so. We'd love to have you join and help push as many environmental/Climaticide diaries as possible on to the Recommended list.
You can sign up here. (It just takes a minute)
